    Someone is getting $161M, fine...
Someone has worst BA in MLB history this year...same someone
    Someone gets $2.8M a year from 2022 to 2037 gaur...same someone

So what happened, was always a strike out king but this is an all time low for him.

Baltimore is absolutely ruined for years because apparently his vision got worse after signing.

Yes, he hit .168, which is the worst ever for someone with 502 or more plate appearances (which is what is necessary to qualify for a batting title, lol).

I wonder why his vision worsened. Usually your vision barely changes in your 20s and 30s.

I don't think it did, tbh.

Did some searching, because this sounded weird and if true, easily fixable, but there doesn't seem to be any evidence at all for it except a comment in 2017 about how he was having trouble "seeing the ball," or however he put it. He also claims/claimed to be better than 20/20, which is probably the norm in baseball.

That contract is horrible even if he kept hitting .250 with 40 homers every year. Baltimore is long-term fucked because that organization hasn't really tried....tried to do anything....to adapt to modern baseball. They have purposely ignored the international free agent market for years. I'm not sure they actually employ a pitching coach anywhere in their entire organization. They get a pitcher high in the draft, he coasts through on natural talent in the minors, then flops in the bigs. They let him leave for ten cents on the dollar (Arrieta and super recently Gausman) and those guys get markedly better IMMEDIATELY when they leave. Just a shit organization.

They appeared to be joining the 21st century this season, by acquiring international spending money, then flipped some of it to the Phillies (I think) for some fringe prospect. Lulz never stop with the O's.

to re-iterate on talking about Davis's deal....it doesn't matter if you're the Dodgers or the Rays, if you're paying a 1B/DH type with 0 worth in the field or on the basepaths $23m a year....they gotta slash like .300/.400/.550 to practically break even value wise on that deal. At least Pujols had a history of doing that before the dumbass Angels gave him his deal. Davis was never close.

I hope. Also, Khris Davis managed to finish with a batting average of .247 for the fourth year in a row.

When are they going to fire Jim Boeheim bro?

U r relegated to making these fcking baseball threads while your coach is killing ppl on the Interstates?

As his 2-3 zone gets torched game after game

Syracuse needs to turn the page and get Rony Seikaly to run the show!

Better yet get Carmelo. Or as I like to call him now Carjello Ass

wow...you would figure as a professional that there would be some professional pride not to go out everyday and embarrass the fuck outta yourself....

just looked, he's only 33 which yeah isn't young but it's not like he's in his late 30s...he was 262/47/100 in '15...doesn't make any sense how you can fall off THAT much...

kinda what I was thinking...was thinking roids, but they test for that shit now...only rational explanation...

but the thing with HGH, even if you're off it doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to hit...like he cant even hit for a respectable average any more...

0-for-44 in his last 44 AB.

    Might be breaking records soon.

I donno. A very small decrease in batspeed/power/functional flexibility/whatever could have a very big effect on batting average.

Game of inches and all that.

Done 0-3 tonight tying and then breaking the record for futility at the plate.. As some Orioles fans have pointed out they need to likely sit his ass down because many, and I agree, think this has become a mental headcase issue that hes thinking so much about this damn 0 for streak its gotten into his psyche totally..

Chris Davis' contract is a perfect example as to what needs to change regarding baseball salaries.

What would be fair is to keep contracts to 1-2 years, and perhaps up the per-year amount.

So instead of a guy getting 8 years/$200m, he would get 2 years/$70m.

This would protect clubs from Chris Davis situations, as well as the natural decline with age, as well as injuries.

There's no reason that clubs should have to sink 8-10 year, big money commitments into guys who may only give you 2-3 good years, and perhaps not even that.

That's why we've been seeing a rebellion where a lot of non-superstars had to settle for short contracts, and two (Keuchel and Kimbrel) still aren't signed.

The players' union thinks this is collusion, but honestly it's just common sense. Much better to fill from within your organization, then sign who you can for short-term deals to plug any holes.

The MLBPA isn't wrong it is collusion but its due to fact of contracts like Pulhols and A-roid ruined it for others.. Hell Im sure the Dbacks even though hes been effective since hes been here wish they hadn't had to give Grienke 230M.. Its why a lot of guys got a kick in the nuts this offseason.. Ownership and GMs realized paying guys ridiculous money for a decade when they were already close or over 30 was insane.. The only reason Harper got what he did is his age and stats indicate his effective worth over the contract means Philly is paying him more closely to his expected output as hes still young.. The contracts like Aroids and others were terribly skewed as the best years had already come and gone or were close at hand (within the next year or so).. The guy whos fanning the flames is that dick Boras because its killing his money cut from his clients..

Baseballs contract situations forced this to happen as they have the opposite problem to the NFL(MLB contracts are fully guaranteed and no salary cap considerations just financial obligations of "dead money") where players end up in contracts that are so much more skewed for the teams in that they may sign a contract for X yrs and X amount of money but only Y is guaranteed (if theyre lucky 50% of the deal) and the teams can cut them without having to fulfil the amounts owed (which is the only situation Im aware of be it sports of any kind or entertainment in general where the payor can break the contract without fully paying out the amounts owed on a whim.. Sure there are morality clauses but every other sport including hockey as well as coachs of said teams in the NFL, as well as sports broadcasters and the like all get every dime even if management decides to go in a different direction)
