    something that tempers my sympathy for biden is that what happened to him in iowa was an unforced error. they hired people who had never been involved in a caucus before and apparently some of them didnt even show up. thats not the sort of quality control i expect from a potential president.

    i just don't think this is what will end up happening.

    the democrat party is more divided right now than i can remember. the far left of the party -- the "point of personal privilege" crowd -- does not seem to remotely resemble the centrist wing.

    i don't see the socialists fading. if they remain democrats, we'll be potentially stuck with socialist presidential candidates for the near future.

    even if those candidates are defeated in democratic primaries, the socialist label will stick to all democrats who, during the primary process, will have to pander to the batshit crazy wing and advocate for idiotic stuff no one believes in like voting rights for incarcerated people or open borders (both of which, bernie advocates for).

    if the far left forms its own wing, i think the real democrats would become the dominant political party in the US. let the extremes be on the far left and right, while the normal people are in the middle. we *desperately* need a third party for exactly this reason.

    By euro standards Bernie is kinda there. Or at least for Northern Europe he's kinda centrist. The closest thing to meritocracy we have.

    I'm a member of the Labour Party. We got destroyed because of a) unpopularity of Corbyn and b) Brexit stance. Many Lab Party policies are fairly popular throughout the nation.

    Comparing the Democrats (liberals) with Labour (socialists), as well as comparing US to UK politics, is a pretty tough thing to do.

    illegal immigrants would qualify for federal health care, breaking up ICE, voting rights for incarcerated felons

    a lot of what ive seen you wring hands over about bernie's platform is right wing hot takes.

    UK had an exceptional deal with EU. They got to cherry-pick so much shit out of it, About half the objections the Brexit side opposed were stuff UK themselves drove. Like the whole East-European immigrants taking low grade jobs. It's all based on a UK initiative. Macro wise it's positive, but that's not how it plays out in elections when none of the ones that gain jobs are allowed to vote.
