It might hurt Biden in the general election if Trump hammers it enough. Lord knows that Trump is excellent at trolling other candidates to the point where his rhetoric about them gets etched in people's minds. Before Trump, did you ever think of Jeb Bush as "low energy"? I bet you think of him that way now!

It's so surreal to see the establishment candidate with the best polling numbers being cast as the big underdog.

    Biden has two huge strengths:

    1) He has an established following of people who already know his faults and still like him anyway, so it will be tough to change people's minds

    2) He is the only major candidate with good black support

He's not a lock by any means, but I was shocked that I got him at +500 not long ago, and I'm shocked that so many people honestly believe Mayor Pete has a better chance to be the nominee than him.

Right now there are only two realistic candidates with a good chance to win the primary -- Biden and Warren. Bernie and Mayor Pete have an outside shot, but it's probably not happening for either one. Every other candidate has never caught on, or has already crashed and burned.

This is nothing like 2008, when an upstart Obama came out of nowhere to pass Hillary and beat her. There is no Obama equivalent here.

This is nothing like 2016, when Trump shocked the Republican establishment by crushing all of the Republican frontrunners. In that case, Trump was leading the whole way, and nobody was willing to accept that his support wouldn't die down.

I think Biden is the most likely winner at this point.
One less candidate for you to have to worry about:

really interesting take on how biden's mere existence in the race is basically fucking up the entire democratic field. i hadnt really considered it from that perspective but it holds a lot of water on examination.

Not the favorite to become president, just the nominee.

Trump has been the favorite to become president since he got elected. (I think?)

Depends on your definition of "favorite". Is he the most likely person to be the next president? Obviously. Is he 50%+ to be the next president, according to betting markets? No. He's an underdog in that sense.

Would a Sanders/Warren ticket be fire?

It puts Bernie's agenda in play and lets Warren essentially prove herself and put together a resume that includes more than 'illegally pretending to be an American Indian', so she can take over in 2021 when Bernie drops dead on the senate floor.

there's still the unanswered question of whether america would rather elect a sociopath than a socialist. i'm still not sure what the answer is, but i've always thought the "single payer/no private insurance" policy is politically toxic.

Elizabeth Warren does a good job posturing as the stern, honest schoolmarm type.

However, the more we learn about her, the more it appears she's just another political fraud.

Even many on the let are suspicious of her, believing Bernie to be the true champion of the far left, whereas Warren just adopts positions to get herself elected. I can't disagree with that assessment.

Every day I feel better about my +500 Biden primary bet, gaffes and all.

The louder voices on the left want a true economic revolution that severely curtails capitalism, something Bernie has been pushing to happen for decades. That’s why he was a bit embarrassed by reporting earlier this year of having achieved a moderately sizable amount of net wealth from his and his wife’s ownerships of their homes. Even that relatively modest amount — somewhere between $1- to $2 million — and absolutely dwarfed by how much Mitch McConnell has grown his wealth during an even shorter time in the Senate (from about $2 to $24+ million).

Warren doesn’t want to go that far, so even though she is still very to the left of Biden, the younger Bernie supporters are “purity testing” Warren for her more moderate stance versus Bernie’s. And that’s why they are suspicious of her.

But calling Warren a “political fraud” is patently ridiculous. She’s been championing the American middle clas for decades in both her research on US financial system as a law professor,

...her work to get the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau formed, her standing up to Team Obama regarding appointments to the administration and the Fed Board of too-friendly-to-big-bank insiders, and her work in Senate to keep the protections of the CFPB from being diluted by the Republicans and bank-friendly Dems.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pol...ma-2020-228068

And her wealth tax proposal has the plutocrat-friendly former Clinton-and-Obama Teams veteran Larry Summers speaking out against it.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnb...fiscation.html

So, Warren is a “political fraud”? Hardly! Even the corporatist Dems are shitting their pants over the prospect of her eclipsing Bernie among progressives. And that’s because they believe Bernie is too radical to win the nomination, and the establishment media is doing it’s darnedest to kneecap his campaign. But Warren os more amenable to them, and could walk away with the nomination if Bernie faded for some reason, such as a recurring health scare.

I realize you have a hard-on for Warren, Mumbles, but Warren has a hard time with the truth.

What about how she "forgot" that she sent her son to private school, until confronted with that fact?

And then there was that whole Native American debacle.

She's been obsessed with hassling the big banks because it's politically expedient to do so. It's the perfect bogeyman to attack, as most people hate big banks, and few like them to the point of wanting to defend them. In recent years, it's even a better political move, given the Wells Fargo scandal (where she placed herself front and center) and others which have made the public even more distrusting of banks.

She seems to constantly adjust herself (even her race) to whatever will bring her the most benefit. I just don't see her as genuine. Strikes me as a limousine liberal, to be honest.

Bernie is genuine. He's just delusional and unrealistic.

Warren also won’t say that taxes will go up on the middle class with Medicare for all while Bernie openly admits it. I’m not a Bernie fan but he believes in everything he says. Warren will say anything she thinks people want to hear.
