OMG I just googled CNN town hall. Is this live streaming anywhere cause it looks hilarious?

And this from a transcript of something called Buttigieg

“Let's talk in language that is understood across the heartland, about faith,” the South Bend, Indiana, mayor said. “You know, if you believe that God is watching as poison is being belched into the air of creation, and people are being harmed by it, countries are at risk in low lying areas. GOP STRATEGISTS FEAR TRUMP’S “POCAHONTAS” THING ISN’T WORKING

IIt’s been 131 days since Donald Trump bragged that he killed Elizabeth Warren’s presidential campaign by mocking her claim to Cherokee ancestry, but her candidacy is more alive than ever. The Democratic senator tripled her fundraising haul last quarter, is commanding massive crowds, crushing the debates, and has settled into a comfortable third place in primary state polling, putting pressure on Bernie Sanders. The “Pocahontas” slur, Republican insiders fear, isn’t cutting it.

Several strategists tell the Daily Beast that Trump was caught off guard by the resonance of Warren’s populist rhetoric—a skill set that in some ways mirrors his own, minus the mental effluvia and human rights violations—and said she might be “tougher” to compete against than he realized, repeatedly asking advisers whether they consider Warren to be a “fighter.” Others confessed that, despite their best efforts to comb her record for dirt and to workshop attacks, the GOP oppo machine has been struggling to land any blows. Sure, some of Warren’s proposals are pie-in-the-sky, and maybe the math is hazy, but have you listened to Donald Trump? One strategist suggested that conservative think tanks have been struggling to keep up with the sheer volume of white papers Warren has been generating.

It doesn’t help that anti-Warren stories haven’t gotten as much pickup in the media, mainstream or otherwise. “We all push out the bad Warren stories but they don’t go very far,” the source said—a point echoed by nearly a dozen others. “Sure the Republican base will ultimately loathe Warren, but she doesn’t inspire the same kind of historic vitriol that Hillary Clinton did,” one of the strategists told the Beast. “That, combined with fact that SCOTUS isn’t on the line as it was in ’16, and remembering that Trump needed the perfect inside straight to barely win last time, and any Democrat is going to be tough to beat, Warren included.”

    Vanity Fair, Mumbles?

    Seriously?

What are they good for, aside from showing nude celebrities on the cover?

The "X attack tactic isn't working for Trump" argument is silly until the general election season starts. Right now Trump isn't trying to land many blows, because he doesn't know who his opponent is going to be yet.

The Pocahontas thing will come back alive if she is the nominee. But that isn't going to sink her by itself. She's going to turn off swing voters with her "give everything free" rhetoric. These type of voters tend to hate the free stuff giveaways because they see themselves as honest, hard workers, and they get pissed when those they perceive as lazy are getting supported on their backs. You can come off as populist as you want on other issues (such as banks), but if your proposals are to hand out a ton of free shit, you're going to lose the blue collar swing voters.

What the Dems really need against Trump is a moderate Democrat who isn't a senile idiot, but it looks like they're not getting that this time.

Keep telling yourself that. Meanwhile, do you agree to my terms re Trump’s re-election next year: $100, straight-up odds, you take Trump to win, I take the other side? Here’s my post from a few days ago offering them.

Druff I disagree with you on this one.

While I don't agree with most of Warren's policy proposals, she seems to me to be a very good opposite to everything Trump - she's super smart, comes across as down to earth and personable (the beer Instagram was not that bad), and passionate with her beliefs.

The question remains as to whether there is a sufficient coalition of anti-trump voters (most all Dems, some independents, and anti-Trump repubs) that can get her elected.

As for Warren's policies, as we all know, even with control of the White House and both Chambers of Congress, it is very difficult for either party to get too much major policy legislation through.
So most likely many of her "dramatic change" ideas wont ever get through anyway.

    Also, she's not Hillary Clinton.

Any magazine that has come this far deserves some respect

While the presidency has become a popularity contest things will tighten up soon.
Warren for all her school marm charm is intelligent, has a squeaky clean image, compared
to most and could out talk Trump in her sleep.

Two big factors in her favour; she is potentially the first woman president and she
will be able to point out the many many lies of Donald Trump.
Trump could say what he wanted in 2016. The sky was the limit.
He now can be held accountable for all his lies.

Even right leaning female voters will find it hard to endorse what is a failed
    human being, Donald Trump

Even the DNC doesn't think Bernie can beat Trump. That's why last go around they rigged the Dem nomination to go to Hillary.

    Also, she's not Hillary Clinton.
Warren has some strengths: Intelligent (though so was Hillary), no suspicion of shadiness or wrongdoing (other than the stupid Native American thing, which she should have solved years ago), and passionate about her beliefs. When it comes to attacking big banks or other exploitative corporations, she does great, and she appeals to the vast majority. Even I liked her handling of the Wells Fargo debacle (though this was done specifically with a future Presidential run in mind, and was a low hanging fruit).

She's also not prone to gaffes, as Trump and Biden are.

But I disagree about the "personable" part. Other than when she's calling out shady corporations, she comes off as like a bitchy, angry old librarian. Many aren't going to relate to her. Trump, on the other hand, while polarizing, has the amazing ability to relate to working class people despite living a lifetime of privilege. He's great at the "I'm successful but I understand you" routine. Warren is not.

And as I said, she's too radical for the average swing voter. The typical swing voter works a unsatisfying and sometimes tough job, but takes solace in the fact that they're supporting their family and doing the best they can. They absolutely detest politicians who want to hand out free stuff to those who aren't working as hard as they are. They also detest when they are dismissed as racist/deplorable/privileged when they feel like good people who are just getting by. That's where Hillary screwed up big time. She only spoke to her base. Trump told these people exactly what they wanted to hear. I think Warren is going to have a hard time with them, and will probably attempt to win their votes with the promise of free stuff from which they can benefit (health care, college, etc). But that's not going to play well, because these people hear "free" and immediately think of handouts to the undeserving.

To be fair, I think the rigging against Bernie was more due to a general resentment towards Bernie in the DNC.

They hate that he's an "independent" who suddenly became a Democrat when it was his way to become President. They don't see him as actually one of them, so they constantly do shady and passive-aggressive things to screw him, usually involving Town Halls or media coverage.

Given how confident you are about Trump’s winning against the Dems next year, you should be willing to take any bets at better than what you believe to be fair odds. Plus, it’s a friendly wager against an actual person whom you can shame on here with your prescient political analysis skills after winning next year, not some coldly impersonal betting marketplace.
