Whats the EV of marriage?

I've been wondering if marriage is a positive or negative EV proposition as a man. If we look at the numbers of divorce rates and how men fair in the property distribution. It is not pretty.Not to mention child support situations. But as with a poker a hand we have some information to work with that moves the EV one way or another. So "who" the two people are matters.
Can marriage be a +EV given favorable coupling/ circumstances? Or will it always be better to stay unwed?
I notice Druff has not married his GF even after a child and a long term relationship. I'd be interested in his comments here.

My wife doesn't make much money but she is great in every other way possible.

I couldn't ask for a better all around women than my wife. Literally the best person i know(not just saying that cus she is my wife ).


So yeah they can be + ev but you gotta find a good one(which now a days is no easy task)

I think that's only due to more opportunity (since there are more men in the workforce than women, so they are out and alone more often), and perhaps the higher sex drive.

Each gender cheats for different reasons, though there's always outliers on both sides as well.

Bottom line is that, when you get married, you need to be sure that both of you really want to be there for the long haul. If anyone is unsure -- even a little -- don't do it. Furthermore, marriage will never fix existing problems. In fact, existing problems will tend to worsen. So if you're not satisfied with the person you're with right now, don't marry them. It won't get better.

I'd also strongly suggest that both people getting married are over 30.

Also never marry anyone in a spot where you feel you've "settled". You can't have unrealistic expectations, but if you know you can do better, you probably shouldn't marry the person you are with now.

The reason I'm not married isn't what you think. It's just we've been together 10 years, have a kid, and have lived together for almost that entire time, so it already feels like we are married. Also, we are both 45+ and big wedding ceremonies feel like something you do when you're young and just starting out in life, which applies to neither of us. So we just haven't done it.

The only piece of advice I would offer anyone is, if you can't handle a couple infidelities, then never get married.

People have this distorted view about marriage, mainly due to TV, movies, and the fact almost never will anyone that's married admit that they cheated on their spouse if they haven't been caught yet.

I'm not saying cheating is ok, I'm just saying that it does happen in marriages, the why is a never ending debate, but it happens, so if you feel like you could never be in a relationship with a cheater, chances are you're better off never getting married.
