Good Hotel Deal for Weekend Date During WSOP?

I'm planning on going to Vegas May 29-June 1 to play in the $1,500 O/8 event at the WSOP and I just started planning the flights/hotel/car rental this week.
The first two hotel nights, a Wednesday and Thursday, are covered by a MyVegas comp (plus resort fee of $40/night plus tax). The third night, a Friday, is a little tougher to find a good deal.

Normally I am big on waiting until late and using Priceline's "Express Deals" or "Name Your Own Price". But at the same time, it doesn't hurt to have a backup plan that is fully refundable. So I booked this today, knowing that it could be refunded if I find something better later.

Like Druff I am always about finding value...I don't want to stay in a dump, but I don't need the nicest place either, especially on this trip when I may not be in the room much anyway. The pluses of this deal are that the rooms are large (and if you look at the hotel's website instead of Travelzoo's they look nicer there), the location is close (but not on) the strip and even though it is on the other side of the strip, it is not far from the Rio at all, and best of all through this deal they will waive the resort fee. So all in it is about $110 after taxes, which is even cheaper than crappy places like Excalibur and Hooters on this particular Friday night, once you throw in their resort fees and taxes.

Does anyone know anything about this place? (It is called the Platinum Hotel and Spa in case you didn't click the link above). Seems like a good deal for a weekend to me, although you can definitely find better deals on weekdays.

    This is true, however...

Not everyone has a casino host.

I’m reading “A Whale in the Desert”. Substitute Bahamas for Vegas and the author, Steve Cyr, is talking about you.

Not everyone gets the private jet and rebates on losses. Stay humble

    Good read btw

Yeah it’s a good read. Steve’s full of himself and exaggerates some of that stuff; but the point is made. Can give you the names of a few others you might like about the mgm takeover of mirage from Wynn among others.

Also the book about titanic Thompson was good as was Amarillo slims.

Lastly you don’t need a host to not be cheap. You just have to decide how you want to live.

If you are really serious about doing well, bite the bullet and stay at the Rio. That hour of relaxation during the dinner break is invaluable to keep you fresh for the whole night, and being able to go right up to your room at the end of the session is a huge plus.
