I believe Druff would disagree with calling David Frum a “conservative”, but would probably agree with the True Scotsman label of “former-conservative-and-probably-now-pretty-liberal”.

Yeah that's fair, since the shift to Trump's Atilla the Hun brand of "conservatism," Frum seems a lot less conservative.

An important difference between American elections vs. Canadian, British etc.
is in supporting the local representative

In Canada we vote for these locals and by extension their party but ultimately
the party picks their leader. And that leader has to win his or her own riding

It's not that different but when Americans claim they are sticking to party lines it's not really true when they have a free vote for a leader
