Guy runs a 750k Super Bowl ticket scam, including 36k from his mom, is nowhere to be found

Police records show Bhavi Shah told authorities that her husband had recently taken out a half-million dollar loan against the business without his wife’s knowledge. She also told police she knew nothing of the alleged ticket scam.

    ...

According to those records, his family believes Shah traveled to Las Vegas at some point, as part of a midlife crisis, but it’s unclear where he could be now.
    Yikes...

I wonder if the idiot shot off the money gambling at high stakes in Vegas.

It seems like a lot of these idiots set their destination for Vegas when they pull something like this. I think it makes them feel important to be treated like a high roller, fuck high end hookers, etc.

LOL @ scamming your own mother. Amazing.

Interestingly, a "poker pro" (Ali Fazeli) was just recently sentenced for a Super Bowl ticket scam which supported his gambling habit.

Dusting off 500k in Vegas casinos was certainly my first thought.

The stories about Fazeli on the PFA Radio shows were the half the reason I posted this here. It’s shitty enough to scam poker players who you may/may not really know and who should probably know better. It’s waaay worse to be scamming your friends, family, and especially your mom.

You guys are so fucking dense. Dude didn’t scam his close friends and mom AND take a huge loan out on his business to go to Vegas for a bender. Only way that’s true is if suicide is the finale. Otherwise this dude is trying to disappear. He collected over $1.25 million cash. He’s got a bigger plan than some hookers and blackjack. He knows his old life is effectively over.
It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

1.25M isnt enough bread to disappear forever. Not even close.

Bender+jail or bender+suicide seems much more likely outcome.

What are you talking about bro?

Parts of Mexico, Central America, and Asia where you can live like a fucking king for $3k a month.

Dude can make it 25-30 years no problem if he did good hiding the cash.

The price of disappearing completely would erase a massive chunk of the money right off the bat, IMO. Sure any schmo could find plenty of places to live well with that dough if they had no reason to look over their shoulder, but someone who needs to not be found is waaaaay more expensive, and would continue to be more expensive.

Im not writing about retirement in a third world country.

Disappearing is expensive under the best of circumstances and problems will arise. Bribes, false paperwork, traveling docs.

He may disappear for a short while imo but I dont think this story has reached its conclusion. (The investigators have given him until today to respond to the charges.)

Gwinnett County police said they were able to track Shah’s bank activity from Miami to Alabama, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona, Las Vegas and finally to Riverside County, California and the Pechanga Casino where the employee called police.

How did my "education" work out?

You mean my MS in computer science which allowed me to have well paying jobs in the 90s and early 2000s, which left me with a 6-figure cash bankroll in 2003 when I started playing poker professionally, and didn't have to panic about a few bad sessions busting me?

    Yes, it worked out well.

I thought you were a security guard just a short time ago. What did you major in? Rent a Cop Studies?

Managing a private security company and being a mall cop are the same thing to you drooling mongoloids.

Seems like your midlife crisis is in full bloom though. Never married. No friends even. Life’s a bore. Maybe go get on some more scripts to escape your pitiful existence. You may have more money than me but I’m richer than you’ll ever be.

Monday, 19-year-old David Halliday was working at his job at a spa concierge at Pechanga Resort and Casino when Shah came in as a customer.

Halliday described Shah as difficult, demaning service ahead of other guests.

"He came in with his girlfriend," Halliday said. "Just from the offset, he seemed a bit different from the usual guests we have in the spa."

Halliday also found it unusual that Shah was paying with cash. Feeling like he might have seen Shah somewhere before, Halliday googled his name.

When numerous stories about the ticket scam came up, Halliday remembered seeing coverage on local news. He called Pechanga security, who brought in the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Deputies arrested Shah without incident.
