HQ Trivia players claiming they are not getting their winnings

For months, players in HQ Trivia, a trivia app that offers cash prizes, say they have been having issues getting their money.

HQ Trivia is basically Bar Trivia: The App. Twice a day, every day, there’s a live trivia show, hosted on the app, that has a pool of cash that goes out to the winners. HQ Trivia players also have to deal with a rising epidemic of cheating, with users joining Discord servers to discuss answers with other players, or even writing bots that will pick the correct answers. The prevalence of cheating first became clear last March when one of the final players in a $25,000 “winner takes all” game was booted for cheating.

Cheating isn’t the only rampant problem in HQ, though. Since at least October of last year, players have been having problems cashing out their winnings. HQ allows you to cash out your winnings to PayPal. There used to be a $20 limit, but that was removed early last year, meaning theoretically players can cash out at any time. A lot of players have been saying that their cash out button is still grayed out, meaning they can’t tap it and receive their winnings.

Obv he cheated and that’s why they won’t pay him. And your take was completely wrong on radio Druff. Did you wish to issue a correction?

What correction needs to be issued?

There is no ‘consideration’ for one... your whole premise was this game is like online poker. You said regarding HQ, ‘people buy into it, then there’s a prize pool.’ This is completely wrong. There is no buy-in and the prize is set before play. Any money spent on extra lives and other ads one are not included or added to the prize. It’s a lot more like the pfa free roll. There is no entry fee to play and win HQ trivia.

You then ask, how will one know if opponents are googling or using bots? But HQ say that googling and using bots is allowed and that if you can do that and answer by yourself in 10 seconds then good for you.

Then you ask what if they play with group of friends? But, this is also expressly allowed. The rules do say that if you use the help of more than 10 people then you’re DQ’d. Apparently some unscrupulous players have been found using some sort of server where they’re using the crowd to somehow help win. Other players have been DQ’d for this offense.

It also says give us 90 days to make sure you didn’t cheat at our free game before we pay you $20K (anything over $1000 gets reviewed). After only 20 days, Alex thinks he will never get paid even tho HQ has made no comment and has paid out $6,000,000 to 99% of cash-out requests. Guilty conscience?

Now stop reading this bullshit and go win the Main!!!

How do they make money if there's no entry fee?

The "getting help from more than 10 people" rule is lol.

So basically you're fucked if you attempt to play by yourself, because even those playing within the rules can play it in groups of 10.

Also, couldn't someone write a bot to scrape the question, google it immediately, and suggest an answer?

They actually make money at least 3 ways that I know of.

They sell multipliers that are used to advance faster thru levels so you get free passes on questions for the entirety of the season. These range per show from $4.99 up to $15.99.

They sell extra lives. You can use these to re-enter after a missed question. These range from $3.99 (for one) up to $12.99 (for 3). Unlike multipliers, you can carry unused extra lives over to future shows.

They are starting at the end of a month a subscription based $9.99 a month for their HW words nightly game. That’s their version of wheel of fortune.

Also, from time to time they will play a trailer for a soon to be released movie or a network tv show. I assume they are getting some income from this.

Also, in regards to Alex Jacobs.

He had for quite some time a pinned tweet that gave his opinion on the various live online game/quiz shows.

He gave his user name for all of them, asking people to use as a referral code which gets you free lives, multipliers, bonuses etc on various platforms.

The user name he had for HQ was BrownDog45 (or something similar).

When he won the $20,000, he won it under an account called Alexjcobb.

When he first tweeted that HQ was not paying him, I went to his twitter and noticed the entire pinned tweet which again included all his various user names for the different sites was deleted.

The dude is obviously smart enough to win HQ. He very well could have created two accounts or more for friends, family, etc but that of course goes against the sites terms of service.

Also, the TOS says if you cash out more than one playing account to the same PayPal, HQ has the right to disqualify you.

An HQ Trivia spokesperson told FOX Business, “We are confident in our decision to withhold the funds while we investigate.”

Whether it was intentional or not, who knows. But I would wager that Jacobs broke one of their TOS, likely by playing on/cashing on multiple accounts and now the company is deciding whether to pay him or not and risk any potential public outcry since he is a generally well liked and respected public figure.

yes, and they still run at a loss, which is why I said they didn;t make money, and they live because of VC.
