She’s just screwing with me I think. I don’t see it. She knows I’m on Astros

All year long I’m Yankees and she’s Red Sox.

Do you think anyone has told Greinke the next game is game 7? He may not know

    Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I faded Lakers tonight but I’m still unsatisfied

In baseball history, there has never been a World Series where the road team won every single game.

So far, road teams are 6-0 and home teams 0-6.

In 1996, road teams were 5-0 where it was Yankees/Braves, but New York finally broke the spell by winning game 6 at home, taking the title.

If Washington wins, they will make history.

Assuming the road team has about a 45% chance to win (I'm just guessing at that figure, but I'm not too far off), the road team going 7-0 will happen about once every 267 World Series.

It's the strangest world series for sure.

You never know what Grienke will bring to the table but they will need a solid 6 innings out of the guy and perhaps Gerritt Cole can throw the rest if the game is close.

Verlander has been terrible lifetime in the World Series too but also been lit up this year in ALDS and ALCS games versus past seasons where he did fine in those.

Because a very similar play occurred in the World Series in 1969...that time the out wasn't called and the no-call resulted in the Mets beating the Orioles in that game and ultimately the Series. Big stink raised that time about the umpiring in the Sporting News and Sports Illustrated the next day/week

J C Martin was the batter with runners on 2nd & 1st, Pete Richert was the thrower, the play happened in game 4 in the 10th inning, and the winning run scored on the play...it was a big controversy then, and I remember reading/viewing pictures in Sports Illustrated. On that play, the batter runner was well in fair territory, the ball struck the batters left arm and bounced away from the first baseman. Pete Richert later said on any similar play thereafter if he sees the batter inside the line Richert would aim to his throw to hit the batter runner square in the back with his best fastball

I'm figuring last night's umpire Sam Holbrooke had studied this play and was aware of the fall-out from the 1969 Series...funny thing, that play was 50 years ago

    you'll notice Martin is not between the foul line and the restraining line as he nears first base...it was a bad no-call;

the call in last nights game wasn't as clear cut, but I believe the 1969 play influenced the home plate umpire Sam Holbrook's thinking

here is the link to the 1969 play as broadcast on NBC at the time

    https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...C&&FORM=VRDGAR

as you will undoubtedly note, neither announcers Lindsey Nelson nor Curt Gowdy had any idea of the rule. Earl Weaver, the Baltimore skipper, had been kicked out of the game earlier for arguing strike calls so he couldn't challenge the no call, the acting manager (Billy Hunter?) did not object. Pete Richert did say something in the post game interview, and he was later proved correct. But because there was no on field objection by Baltimore, the call stood (while there was no official replay review, umpires could confer amongst themselves if challenged and reverse a call/play...but there was no on field review/ruling by the head umpire because Baltimore did not object).

Howie Kendrick and the Nationals have just made another comeback.

Harris is a Houston native, btw. Not sure he will get over this.

Though Houston made a mistake with Greinke. I know him from watching him for years with the Dodgers. When he gives up a HR in the 7th or 8th, you hook him. That's the sign he's out of gas.

He walked Soto before getting hooked, which put the extra run on base when Kendrick took Harris deep.

Not a Dave Roberts level mistake, but a mistake if you've been watching Greinke's career.

Well it looks like "mattress king" will lose $12 million tonight and hopefully Kate Upton will refuse to have sex with her husband James Verlander because the Astros are a bunch of fucking losers that can't win at home.

Nats just plain beat the Astros

Astros LOB was just stupid. 3rd base was where Astros base runners went to die

Mattress Mack gave me a huge opportunity to hedge and I didn’t. Just stubborn

It’s the stuff tilt and self loathing is made of.

No sports til I calm down.

When European countries start offering 30 million dollars a year plus endorsements attracting the best talent in the world, then they can do the same.

No, it's just ridiculous. At least have a one-off game vs the Japanese champions to say you're the World Champs.

    I have mixed feelings.

As the biggest Expos fan that ever existed that basically stopped following baseball for years after they left I'm conflicted. I want to be happy but I'm not. Maybe I'd feel a sense of kinship with the Nats if they had honoured the number retired by the Expos & acknowledged their lineage, but they really didn't, so I don't.

1 of my biggest regrets is I never made it to Montreal to see a game live.

BTW, if I saw Jeff Loria walking down the street I'd walk up to him & kick him as hard as I could in the nuts. I'm not even joking & friends who have heard me say the same thing know I'm not joking.

Did Druff have a vote this year? How much ya wanna bet the 1 first place Ryu voter is the same guy who also gave the only votes to Kershaw and Beuhler?

I don't really care about awards, but for those who do, they should really filter out these nuts. You give a guy a 3rd place vote who NOBODY else even gave a 4th or 5th? Time to give up that vote.

    Cody Bellinger MVP.

He had arguably the best two months ever of any player in April and May (at least if you take away the roid-aided seasons like Bonds or McGwire), but his second half was very ordinary.

He's lucky Yelich got hurt, or it probably would have gone to him again.

Anyway, congrats to Cody, who is in the odd position of winning MVP, yet still having to work on his swing in the offseason. He looked pretty bad in the playoffs too, whereas teammates Max Muncy and Justin Turner were still raking.
