only thing I can come up with is that they're not gonna sell at the deadline and prep for '20 while letting wheeler (pretty sure he's an FA at the end of the year) walk and getting his replacement now...

if they trade thor after this move then whatever ol' brodie is smokin' he needs to pass that shit...

Per trade rumors, Mets are thinking next year ànd stroman is çontrollable for a few years, spec is they may yet trade a top starter for prospects

completely understandable and makes perfect sense...but if they turn around and trade thor then that makes this trade make absolutely no sense because I think he's controllable through '21 and possibly even '22...

so how can you value a controllable asset (stroman) and then not value a controllable asset (thor) unless they get major league ready prospects that they can have a long amount of control over...if they trade thor and get a bunch of top tier A/AA prospects for him then brodie is a fucking retard...

Reply from a guy "Davemsn" on Covers.com MLB thread.. Thread's Q was "did Mets do this to sabotage Yankees?"

"Mets next 10 games are vs the CWS..Pirates & Marlins..... They are definitely alive for the WC......expect them to be 2-3 games out after those games if not closer.. "

Most ppl said OP was a nut to think they would make the move solely to piss off yankees...others were saying mets only 6 gas out of WC and this guy makes a case why Mets will be 3 gas out after above trip... I Love the Mets..not their owners or GM...Gd luck.

Pretty boring trade season so far... especially given that this is now a hard deadline.

So the biggest stories involve Puig, Bauer, and Stroman, and two of the three are going to non-contending teams?

    Yawwwwwwwwwwwn

Greinke has $77m left on his contract, which runs through 2021.

Dbacks sent $24m to cover part of it, meaning Cleveland will be paying $53m for 2 years plus the remainder of this year.

Greinke will be 36 in October, so a decline is likely coming soon.

Houston, not Cleveland....and its working for them with Verlander so far, might as well try again. As a twins fan, I was not happy to see this trade.

Houston did give up 3 of its top 6 prospects tho, so good haul for the d-backs.

Cleveland giving up Bauer in the way they did made perfect sense, although I still think they are worse now even after becoming the first team ever to acquire 2 guys with 20 HR's already in the same trade. We'll see if Salazar or Kluber can do anything the rest of this season.

Slightly upset the Twins didn't get a starter, but getting Romo+ and Dyson for a relatively low return is fine.

    Oops yeah, I meant Houston.

It is a pretty good haul for the Dbacks, since they get out of $53m from that contract, get some prospects, and in all honesty weren't going to contend with the team they have at the moment, even if they're technically in the wildcard hunt.

This is how you processed the Greinke news?

Name another mid 30’s starter the Astros picked up just prior to the WS trophy. His wife has big tits. That’s enough hints.

Decline? You mean decline before October? Cause otherwise nobody gives a fuck. That’s not how it works. The object is winning the World Series. There are no “finishing in the money” prizes.

More importantly, zero fine tuning for October from the nerd. Stick with the winning formula, I guess.

Speaking of the over rated nerd duo. Farhan does the fan thing with Bum. There is/was no magic to these guys.

The Astros really might not be your problem anyway. Scherzer, Strasbourg, Corbin delivering long outings in a short series just might be a problem for a team with poor defense and an unproven ability to manufacture runs.

You better work on your pain management techniques.

The question that I am starting to entertain is “when do Dodger fans lose their childish optimism and develop the hard boiled cynicism that comes with decades of losing and near misses”?

Think Cubs fans before Theo. You can’t be far from rolling over.

    Gingergaard tonight. total over son

Of course Dyson implodes in his first Twins outing. Could have had any AAAA guy do that against that powerhouse Marlins lineup.

Speaking the other way on those Dodger prospects tho, glad I picked up Will Smith on my fantasy team.

I think some months from now we might hear some interesting tidbits about that Stroman trade.

Occams razor is basically the pc storyline out there, that Toronto valued the 2 Mets pitchers more than most public evaluators.

Being that he went to the "other" New York, there was the jump right away that they were screwing over the Yankees. That would make more sense if the trade actually happened right at the deadline (they were stringing them along or some nonsense), but it did not. Now I read today that sources from the Twins say that Toronto demanded 1 of the top 2 prospects (Lewis and Kiriloff) from Minnesota and got a hard no on that. Supposedly, Toronto never made another offer with Minnesota before accepting the Mets deal.

Maybe they just wanted him shipped to the other league. Kinda dumb since he only has 1 more year of control and can wind up right back in the AL before Toronto expects to contend again anyway.
