Roger, what I need to do is attend Dodgers playoff games.

They are 10-0 in postseason games I've attended in the 2010s (including 2-0 in the World Series), but under .500 in the postseason home games I didn't attend.

I keep telling them to give me free tickets, but they won't respond to me.

They also started Freese again at 1B. They just don't learn.

At least they were smart enough to move Bellinger back to cleanup, and Verdugo got a start.

They did sit Seager in favor of Taylor, but this was reported as a day of rest for Seager, and I guess that's okay, since he's not off to a particularly good start.

Bellinger's huge bat has masked a lot of their offensive woes lately, with Pollock, Turner, and Seager doing very little. Bellinger went 1-for-2 with a walk and sac fly today. He just doesn't have a bad game, it seems. This was about as quiet as any team can keep him.

    Bellinger watch:

Coming into today hitting .426, with a .500 OBP, 12 HR, and 31 RBI.

Remember how easy he was to strike out at times?

He has just 13 K -- only one more K than HR.

So he's homering almost as often as he strikes out.

    Wow.

I have a confession. I’ve flipped. I’m a Bellinger guy. He is lightning fast. Fields multiple positions well.

    More valuable than Yelich? Yes

Look at the Yelich home vs road stats OBP SLG OPS Stunning. You will never look at him the same.

Bellinger slugged his 13th HR, went 2-for-3, and walked.

So he raised his batting average again - to .433.

He's got everything going on right now.

When they pitch him in the zone, he hits it -- often for a HR.

When they pitch him out of the zone, he doesn't swing, and walks.

When he's on defense, he does a great job in the outfield.

When he's on the basepaths, he runs fast and even steals bases.

It also helps that opposing pitching is terrified of him now, hence the numerous walks.

Hard to believe this was the same guy who struck out every time against the Astros in the '17 World Series, and had a lot of trouble making contact in 2018, in what was considered a disappointing sophomore campaign.

Suddenly he's even making Yelich look human.

Grrrr……. Druff this is getting serious--you're a major jinx….The first game after the above post of yours Bellinger went hitless with no rbi's nor productive outs. indeed he was lucky to coax a meaningless walk in the eighth inning

if I was in Nevada I would have placed a prop against Bellinger getting a hit, provided I could find such a bet

now, badmouth both the dodgers & Bellinger then button up!!

    a little historical baseball trivia

The Guardian has a fairly complete story of the baseball team and the cults colony and early amusement park. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/20...religious-sect
"With aggressive baserunning, skillful fielding and incredible dexterity at bat, the House of David became baseball’s answer to the Harlem Globetrotters. In small towns across America, people flocked to witness their lavish show, typically replete with stunts and gimmicks. The House of David became known for mastering the game of pepper, where players threw and bunted the ball back and forth with great imagination. Crowds were dazzled as the touring players hid balls in their beards and performed tricks aplenty. One obscure scheme saw the House of David play an inning or two with fielders riding donkeys. No ploy was too bizarre."

Mashable has plenty of pics here. https://mashable.com/2017/05/20/hous...baseball-team/

From Ken Burn's baseball documentary, some of the pepper game in the second minute.

The amusement park was a big deal back in the day. Lions, tigers, leopards, bears, monkeys, 1/4 scale trains, midget cars, a beer garden, restaurants, motor hotel, cabins and excellent bands all drew in folks. SW Michigan has always been a vacation spot for Chicago ppl.

Am I the only one surprised by the team chasing the Dodgers right now?? I was sure the Dbags were gonna suck a tailpipe this year.. The went 8-2 on their most recent road trip and were tied for 1st with the Dodgers despite losing a couple of top players to a trade and free agency coming into Saturday (yep they laid an egg tonight) and are 1.5 back due to Dodgers sweep of a DH.. Its possible the NL West is the most compelling division this year after I expected it to be Dodgers to lose and maybe a team like SD or Colorado contended for a WC slot if they were lucky.

Sorry, but it won't last. This is a fluke, and it helped that they faced a cold Pirates team.

Just not enough depth on this team, not enough star power, and not enough guys with upside who can surprise you.

The Dodgers' competition in the NL West this year will be the Padres.

I feel like I can now say with a fair amount of confidence the Red Socks are in fucking trouble this year.

badguy the Pirates just dropped their 8th straight, blowing a 5-0 lead against the Dodgers.

They were 12-6 before this slump.

How are the Yankees hitting so well with their entire lineup on the DL?

The Rays have a $61m payroll (lowest) and currently hold the best record in baseball.

The Giants have the 5th highest payroll and will probably finish last.

The Angels have the 9th highest and probably will not contend.

The Dodgers have the 4th highest, but this is misleading. Some of it is dead money, and they only have 5 players making more than $5m. Of those 5 (Kershaw, Turner, Ryu, Hill, Jansen), none have contributed all that much yet to their good 19-11 start, aside from Jansen. Joe Kelly is sort of making over $5m, as most of his 3y/$25m contract is backloaded. But he's been useless.

Long term, this is a damn windfall for the Yankees.

Clearly they are deep beyond the imagination of any other team.

They will have an excess of proven major league talent to wheel & deal.

It really is hard to fathom where they will be after the July 31 non waiver deadline. Astros Yankees battle will be choice.

Dodgers let one get away. Bullpen blew a 2-0 lead, and they lost 3-2.

They did have a 2-out chance in the 8th when Bellinger and Muncy were both walked, but Kike' routinely flew out to end it.

Bellinger went 2-for-3 with a walk and RBI. He's now hitting .434 and his OBP is .508.

How fucked up is the salary structure to where he's only making $600k while certain washed up players barely fit to play in MLB are making over $20m?

One heckler in SF was yelling, "Cooooooooody... Christian Yelich MVP!"

Kind of a creative troll job there, but it was a compliment if you really think about it. The heckler is basically conceding that the MVP race will be between Bellinger and Yelich.

It is kind of sad though that they obviously have no one even close from their own team to heckle him with.

I think it would actually be funnier if he used a random Giants player instead. "Coooooooody....Kevin Pillar MVP!"

    Just saw this.

    All I can say is:

While Baez is very good, Yelich has shown that he's become a legit superstar, and Bellinger's huge breakout isn't considered to be a fluke by most experts. Also, Bellinger is only 23, so you can imagine how many huge years the Dodgers might get out of him -- and several more on the cheap.

Also, sad Baez story for me.

I had Javier Baez on my fantasy team when he was in the minors. I kept him there a few years in a rookie spot, and then he got promoted.

In his rookie year of 2014, he got 213 AB and hit a dismal .169, though he did smack 9 HR.

    I still kept him.

Then in 2015 he only got 76 AB and hit just 1 HR, though his average improved. As 2016 opened, it was announced he wouldn't have a starting job, so I let him go, even though he was only $5.

    Then you know what happened.

just tuned into the last part of the LAD/SF game and posey got the game winning hit...got curious and went to BR to check his career numbers, then went down the HOF catcher rabbit hole...

really a bitch of a position to figure out...trying to figure out if guys like mauer/posey are HOFers...definitely didn't think mauer was, looked at his numbers and relative to other catchers they're not bad...but the thing is he played a shitton of games at DH/1B during the last half of his career...

    I gotta stop watching baseball...

Posey was on his way, but he's been shit for the last few years.

Embarrassing that the Dodgers have lost 2 of 3 to the lowly Giants.
