Will nobody be fired, with the Dodgers' 4 consecutive division titles (during his tenure), two 104+ game win seasons, two World Series appearances, and 3 NLCS appearances be the justification?

Keep in mind that Friedman is/was under orders from ownership to keep under the luxury tax threshold. And Roberts was probably under orders from Friedman to manage the way the front office wants.

Since ownership can't fire itself, who should be canned?

Personally I'm sick of Friedman, and wouldn't mind seeing him go. He still runs this team like it's a small market operation. He's afraid to fire big money at any one player, but instead wastes equivalent money by signing a bunch of flawed players to mid-size contracts. He's too obsessed with mid-money free agents who have a small chance at a high upside, which is what you do when you have a small market team, but not with the Dodgers.

Not only that, but he has a poor feel for which mid-money free agents to sign.

I'll excuse the Kershaw thing. Even though it was clear Kershaw's velocity was down and never coming back when he gave Kershaw the extension, the truth was that Kershaw wasn't going to opt out anyway, so it was really just an extra year. Given his monster numbers with LA and career-long tenure with the team, I understand that.

I'll excuse the Jansen extension. At the time, Jansen was dominant, and nobody saw his decline coming so early.

But all of the outside free agents for $10+ million have been a fail under Friedman.

    Brett Anderson? Fail.

Brandon McCarthy? Fail to the point where he's out of baseball now.

    Logan Forsythe? Fail.

    Joe Kelly? Fail.

    AJ Pollock? Fail.

Rich Hill? Not quite a fail, but they could have used the money better. He was too old and too injury-prone. Prior to the signing, he had pitched 111+ innings in a year just twice in his life -- back in 2007. He gave the Dodgers about 135 in both 2017 and 2018, and was useless in 2019. His numbers were good when he pitched, but he didn't provide $48m of production.

The team has succeeded on the backs of its young players and surprising players. The farm system produced Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger, Walker Buehler, and Joc Pederson. They lucked out in acquiring Chris Taylor and Max Muncy when they were nobodies on the verge of being out of baseball. I guess you can give them credit there, but you can't say that they expected any real production out of either of these guys when they picked them up. And then there was Justin Turner, acquired from the scrap heap during the previous front office regime, who they got to sign as a free agent at a cut rate because his story of ascension was so unexpected and still unproven.

Anyway, Friedman's only real accomplishment has been NOT making franchise-killing moves, such as trading minor leaguers Bellinger or Buehler (he had tons of suitors), and NOT signing declining "stars" to huge albatross contracts.

At the same time, he has made no major moves which have worked out, and his inaction at the trade deadline has often been baffling. The most baffling of them was 2017, when Justin Verlander was practically begging for the Dodgers to trade for him, and they grabbed Fuck Yu instead. Verlander hadn't had his career renaissance yet, and could have been had for cheap. That probably cost them the 2017 World Series, especially since Fuck Yu blew 2 of those games.

In short, I'm ready for somebody new.

It could be worse, though. Look at what a disaster the Phillies have become again. At least they finally let go of weirdo coconut oil masturbator Gabe Kapler.
As Ive said before the Dodgers in MLB remind me of my Capitals in the NHL with the constant ineptness come playoff time (3 Presidents trophy as best regular season and still failed to get past second rnd in each case). The irony was what happened the last time that happened.. They fired their GM George McPhee, yes the same McPhee who took over the new upstart Vegas Golden Knights and put together the best season of any expansion team making the finals in their first year since the St Louis Blues did it in the late 1960s (it should be noted that expansion was a significant enlargement of the NHL with every team in the new Campbell/Western Conference being an expansion team so somebody was going to accomplish that either way). Although what makes the Dodgers situation much worse is this.. There is NO SALARY CAP in MLB you can literally pay a player whatever you want for however long you want but the funny thing is the teams lighting hundreds of millions on fire every season in big markets havent seen a huge return..

Outside of the Dodgers the Yankees are notoriously big spenders yet havent won a World Series in 10 years (2009) before that it was the run of 4 in 5 yrs{Wouldve been an epic 5 in 6 had the Diamondbacks not had Schilling and The Big Unit pitching for them and Andy Pettite getting caught tipping his pitches in Game 6 of the World Series that year} (and they went 20 yrs before that stretch run previously). Same with Boston who threw money hand over fist yet didnt break the curse until 2004. Baseball is funny like that where you can throw huge piles of cash thinking its the answer to win it all (and unlike the other 3 major sports in USA allows it although the argument can be made the NBA's salary cap with the Byrd Exception among others allows some serious manipulation to buy titles). I do think Dave Roberts should be fired based on his managerial failures in the playoffs repeatedly as it shows he cant manage things in the playoffs worth a damn.. On a side note though Druff alot of talking heads said Washington in the NLDS was their one weakness and that baring facing anybodyelse should return to the World Series (little known trivia.. Apparently the Nats win in the NLDS was the first playoff series win for a DC MLB team since 1924 World Series with easily the best pitcher in baseball at the time Walter Johnson).

Oh and the irony the Nats make it to the NLCS (and I suspect now the World Series) after the $400+Million Dollar man walked away to go to Philly.. Yep Bryce Harper appears to have done the Nationals a favor..

    Ha ha

Let’s revisit the “LA sports and their fans are over rated” conversation. It’s been a while

The discussion yesterday and today has been that there were more opposing (Steelers and 49’er) fans in the stadium to watch the home Chargers and Rams. In fact, the LA stadium PA was playing music adopted by the Steelers.

We have LeBron in playoff mode already.

The LA Kings hockey team is wretched.

Dodger fans long gone before the final pitch of the last playoff game. Anything can happen .... unless it’s the Dodgers.

Clippers have always been ignored by LA. That says a lot.

Kronke building that amazing stadium for LA fans is a boondoggle. Maybe he will have gang violence days to jump start attendance

yankees can't beat top shelf pitching. for as many hitters as they have they're severely lacking a LHH that's a really good hitter.

i lol every time i see encarnacion hitting cleanup and striking out.

this team can't bunt for shit either. and when you're dealing with a low scoring game you have to find a way to manufacture runs.

gardner has to bunt in the first and get those runner to 2/3rd

this team just isn't going to get the big inning vs verlander or cole...coupled with somebody other than tanaka to shut them down

Astros will win the WS in 5.

I had a dream it was a sweep but want it to seem like it wasn't far fetched so 5.

Also Astros will visit the WH sans latinos.... so some of the Astros will visit the WH.

Wife passed through the room the other day and said she thought Rendon was hot.

My problems with the Nats keep adding up

Astros are done. They ran out of juice. Yankees took them to the limit and once Cole and Verlander got smashed 1st time around in the WS it was like fighting Jon Jones after 3 rounds where all he did was land leg kicks. Sure, you got 2 more rounds, but you cant even stand anymore.
