Don't compare this team to a team that got the job done
now if they do win a world series(like my cubs did) then you can't start comparing but until then .... they are just a team who beat up a soft division for years and got smoked by the real team once playoff time rolled around
    "Smoked by a real team"?

Come on. The Dodgers were 1 game away from beating a very tough Houston team in the World Series in 2017. Start Wood at home that year instead of F. Yu, and there's a good chance the Dodgers would have followed the Cubs as World Series champs. The Dodgers have also made back-to-back World Series, so they're 4-0 in NL playoff series since 2017.

The Cubs, as I'm sure you remember, almost shit the bed anyway, going down 3-1 before the Indians choked it off. Had the Cubs been facing a team like the 2017 Astros or 2018 Red Sox, they wouldn't have gotten so lucky.

The Phllies made some tremendous mistakes in those years, and totally fucked the coming decade thanks to some awful contracts they gave to aging players. That's why they haven't seen the postseason in 7 straight seasons, and it's about to be eight, despite the fact that two wildcards makes it relatively easy to get there if your team is decent.

The postseason is such a crapshoot that it's foolish to mortgage the future based upon the chance to win a World Series. Sure, it's smart to load up on a few useful players where you don't have to give away too much, but the Phillies were not the team whose blueprint should be followed.

Incidentally, your Cubs have been a tremendous disappointment. People were talking "dynasty" in 2016, and now your team is fighting with 3 other mediocre clubs to grab the second wildcard with an 86-win type record. They just haven't been the same since the Dodgers crushed them in the 2017 NLCS, so it makes sense that you hate the Dodgers so much.

I would much rather have a perpetually competitive team to root for than one who spikes a World Series or two, and then sucks for a long time.

The key word there is "almost"

We been in the playoffs every year since 2015 and made nlcs + we actually won the world series.

You can argue all you like but until they win one you don't have much of an argument.

Are the buffalo bills of the 90's considered one of the top dynasties ever? Nope ,they were a good team that couldn't win the big game

    Like the dodgers

With the exception of you, bigdick, variance is how poker players preserve self esteem.

If we continue to run his post through the “Dan Druff to English” translator “loading up on useful players” means “bullpen” to you and I. Why bother. Los Angeles won’t be too upset. They’ll come back. Philly would be throwing batteries next spring.

Funny how the same damn teams end up in the Final Series back to back year after year. Some don’t like the outcome but there you have it.

Lotta noobs like to project regular season results forward into post season. Not how it works. If that’s described as variance I have to say that’s a bastardized use of the term. Just admit you can’t handicap.

When you hear this crapshoot stuff just pat the kid on the head and tell him to wear his helmet when he rides his two-wheeler.

Raptors binked 2019 by landing Leonard.

They are fucked this year (should still make playoffs) but I would do that again 100/100 times.

Druff would you keep Derozan and be happy with making it to the Eastern finals a couple more years?

It is like you equate the Patriots and the Dodgers. I can’t rationalize that.

Trout and Yelich now out for the season. If you heard that news last month you’d assume Bellinger would walk away with the HR title

Except ... Bellinger hasn’t hit a dinger since Sept 2nd. I agree with Druff this is the result of Muncy’s absence but it’s also that cat and mouse between pitcher and hitter. The cat is winning

NBA is different. If you have the best team, your chance are a lot higher of winning the championship than in MLB.

I feel it's foolish to mortgage the future to win now in MLB, unless you have a low budget (see KC Royals) and this is basically going to be your only shot for a long time.

Dodgers have a lot of young, good players, plus a budget to spend on free agents (which hopefully they utilize better in the future), so there's no reason to dump everything for the here-and-now, and then pray that the postseason goes well.

Personally, I've really enjoyed rooting for the Dodgers for the past 7 seasons, where each team had a realistic path to a World Series title. Much prefer that to a team which shoots their load, and then sucks balls for many seasons in a row, and I end up tuning them out. You know, like the Lakers, whom I've lost most interest in during the 2010s.

Nationals just secured the wildcard. They're 69-38 since their horrendous 19-31 start (which at the time was the second worst in the NL), and I really hope the Brewers manage to beat them in the wildcard game.

The Phillies were also officially eliminated today, though their goose was cooked a long time ago. What a fucking fail. They were supposed to overtake the Braves for NL East supremacy, and possibly become a new NL dynasty. Instead, they couldn't even squeeze out a second wildcard, and in fact will finish several games behind that spot.

The extra FU is the Bryce-less Nationals cruising into the wildcard, and probably ending up winning 91-92 games.

Cody Bellinger 3 HR since Aug 18th

    Drops mic

    Picks mic back up....

Even though Friedman puts “nerd” under his name on the business card ... you know they are gonna force feed Jansen cause his title is “closer”.

At least I hope so. The most vulnerable team in the playoffs.

Oops, I mean variance. Did I do that right Todd?

You must not be watching the bullpens of the other NL playoff teams. The only one without real bullpen problems at the moment is the Cardinals.

the bullpen gap between teams will narrow: all teams figure to augment their bullpens by cannibalizing their starting rotations: spot starter, 5th starter and maybe their 4th transferred to the relief corp

agreed that Dodgers are vulnerable--their strength this season been their depth: at least a solid performer (2 WAR) at each position with lesser drop off in performance occurring when front liners are out due to rest or injury...their star & leading players may be surpassed by other teams; particularly strong is Washington's starting pitching 3 top
