Dodgers pitching is worrisome.
I actually said this on a Dodgers Facebook group I'm in, and some people dismissed me.
Buehler didn't have much of a spring and it shows. This also can't be helping his confidence.
Kershaw... who knows what we will get from him?
Ryu is injured. Stripling has always been a mediocrity aside from that no-hitter he was lifted from in his first Major League start. Hill, when he pitches, can't be too effective anymore at his age. Maeda is also looking like a mediocrity.
The bullpen has looked horrible, save for Jansen and Floro. Why they keep running Baez out there in close games, I'll never know. Baez is either great or awful. Right now he's in his awful mode, so he needs to be used for trash time. Fortunately last year he was great at the end of the season and in the playoffs.
Joe Kelly tossing away 3 of the first 11 games they played was very sad. Believe it or not, if they didn't have Kelly, the Dodgers might have started 11-0. Instead, they're 8-6.
Chris Taylor also looks terrible right now and needs to be sat down for awhile.
On the bright side, Max Muncy seems to have snapped out of his troubles, and now has 4 HR. So he might end up being okay, despite my concerns.
Seager is also not at all looking the same since missing a year. That might change, though. Sometimes it just takes a bit of time.
Joc is back in a slump, and Verdugo should take over.
Roberts should stop obsessing with this lefty/righty crap and just go with this lineup for the most part:
C Barnes
1B Muncy
2B Hernandez
3B Turner
SS Seager
LF Verdugo
CF Pollock
RF Bellinger
That's going to be the best run producing group going forward.
Also stop putting Muncy at 2B because he's brutal there.
ozzie albies should be legally allowed to murder his agent
lol at 7 years 35 million
https://twitter.com/twt/status/1116419435244457984
thought the same thing when I saw 7/35...thought it was a misprint...and they got 2 options for $10M per...
he's 22 and won't be able to hit FA in his prime...I mean I guess $55M is better than nothing, but jesus Christ...I could see selling out arb years since it seems a little random...
$170M for acuna and albies…amazing..
seriously what the fuck happened to the MLBPA?
The Albies thing is unbelievable. Doesn't he realize he just needs to tough it out for a few more years, and he'll get more than $7m/year in arbitration?
And LOL @ the team option for $10m for 2026/2027. What a fucking fail.
If he remains good, he won't be eligible for free agency until 2028, when he's 31. And the way things are going, teams are clearly moving away from awarding large free agent contracts to players in their 30s.
MLBPA is caught with their pants down regarding these early extensions. They don't know how to handle it yet. This might be the catalyst for them to finally put their foot down.
The early extensions are brilliant from the team's standpoint. Take a young guy with immediate returns and huge upside, scare him into thinking about what will happen if he gets injured badly before he's arbitration-eligible, and then guarantee him tens of millions right now, regardless of what happens. No gambling for the player as far as making it through the cheap years with remaining value. So these guys panic and sign super-team-friendly deals, and fail to cash in later when they really can.
Some teams are already taking the extension thing to an extreme, such as the Cubs who signed a 5 year/$15m deal with reserve infielder David Bote.
thank god for cole hammels
Sad that the Dodgers didn't go after him last year. Apparently he wanted to come to LA, but they weren't interested. They could really use him right now.
This team can't pitch.
I went to tonight's game with Benjamin
They lost 8-5 after the lead changed hands multiple times.
Sure, they left 11 men on base, and that's what the talk shows keep focusing upon, but that's the wrong way to look at it. They scored 5 runs. They scored 7 the game before. They lost both. They won several others earlier where they gave up a bunch of runs, but scored even more.
It's such a shame to waste this potent offense. Joe Kelly continues to suck, though to be fair, they were already behind 6-5 when he coughed up that extra run.
Even Jansen didn't pitch all that well tonight (in a non-save situation)
Dylan Floro has been the only good middle reliever.
If the plan is, "We need more than 5 runs to win", it's going to be a long season.
David Freese is so clutch, though. Every time the guy needs to get a hit, he gets a hit. He did that last year as soon as he joined the Dodgers, and he is already doing it this year.
I don't know why the Dodgers don't just drop the money on Dallas Keuchel for a year. He revealed recently that he's willing to take something like $20m in a 1-year deal.
Instead, it appears the Padres are going to grab him. Not certain yet, but that's where it's heading.
Cody Bellinger is so far hitting an insane .424/.500/.909, including 9 HR.
Word around the NL is that teams are just going to pitch around him until he cools down.
Also, Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp will be returning to Dodger Stadium in a Reds uniform.
Puig is hitting .163 with 1 HR.
Kemp is hitting .162, also with 1 HR.
So far dumping them looks smart, even if the Dodgers got just about nothing for them and Alex Wood (basically Dylan Floro and two okayish prospects). They didn't even save significant money from the move.
Cause the better nerd left Dodgers for Padres?
The truth is prolly financial. Nobody really knows wtf is going on there. Someday a really big Guggenheim story is gonna drop.
Find yourself a billionaire with an ego not an insurance company
I need to conserve my posts until tonight’s Druff trolling.

Dave Cameron was running fangraphs until taking a job with the Padres FO last year. Sadly for him, IMO, it was AFTER the Hosmer signing. That was....still not the greatest signing. But I'm guessing he was a big factor behind the Manny signing and the promoting the kids early strat. Manipulating service time was sooooo 2010. Now its promote and extend early is the +EV strat.
If Matt Kemp gets traded this season, he could have 4 different teams paying his salary this year....which I find fucking beautiful.
NFL guys must really hate Matt Kemp.
The old Dodger batting coach went to Reds.
I’m serious here. Van Scoyok working with Puig might have yielded amazing results. I think the combination of McGuire & the nerds ruined him.
Dodgers are just going to dredge some fringe guys hoping to renovate them anyway. Why not work with the incredible athlete Puig?
Stupid trade. The move was not smart
maybe this clip will be up on youtube, but al leiter just did a great breakdown of james Paxton's last start against the astros...
correa was on 2nd and gurriel was batting...Paxton was getting sloppy with his glove so correa could see is grip...he'd look to the left for a knuckle-curve and to the right for a fastball...wonder how many people watching actually picked up on that...phenomenal lesson in pitch stealing...
wonder if we go back and see fuck yu doing that in the WS...
Dodgers are losing 3-2 in the 9th.
2-run HR by Puig.
Go-ahead RBI by Kemp in the 8th against Jansen.
I guess not fail.
Freese comes up clutch again with a leadoff walk (including taking a marginal pitch), and then Joc put it in the seats for a walkoff.
It helped that Rasiel Iglesias has sucked this year.
