There's no way to accurately predict it, but sci-fi has never been concerned with that accuracy, anyway.
Why is that? Are you thinking we can't accurately picture what aliens would be like? Not trolling.
Sci-fi films and TV shows have always been about what looks cool and seems exciting, rather than being any kind of accurate likely depiction of alien life.
I believe our eventual discovery of alien life will be very disappointing -- something like a simple life form such as microbes or plant-type life. At best we will discover alien creatures, maybe something similar to dogs. I don't see us running into an advanced civilization. Possible, but not likely.
BTW, it makes even less sense that we are being observed by aliens who are choosing not to make contact. That also doesn't make any sense. If we found intelligent aliens, the first thing we would do is make contact. That's what they would likely do, as well. If they could travel here on spaceships which are centuries more advanced that anything we could build, they'd have nothing to fear from us. They wouldn't be hiding in the shadows.
I think if we ever get a visit from aliens (which is unlikely, in my opinion), they will announce they're coming, and their landing here will be a huge event beyond anything we've seen before.
