Inefficient by what standards. Did he not invade enough sovereign nations or the like ya damn auz

If he played the typical political games and did a few more favors on Capitol Hill he might have avoided a lot of issues in passing legislation... and had a few more friends.
Good on him for not playing those corrupt games.

I don't think it's a stretch to say he was ineffective.

Ineffective is purely subjective. Given that any leader has to do some dirty work I give him an A+ for not selling out

He had no clue how to be President, but is a good man.

Can't say the same for Bill Clinton... or Trump for that matter.

Sometimes you need a peacetime consigliere, sometimes a wartime one.

He was no doubt a nice guy and if I had to choose one of the semi-recent presidents for my nephews to inspire to grow up like it would undoubtedly be Carter.

That being said few of us here remember what that mismanaged economy was like and try and tell one of the hostages families that he was a great president.

I was always amazed that he had the moniker of "wimp" thrown around by the press and his political enemies. HW was a gangster in every sense of the word. There is literally no telling how many people he buried while head of the CIA.

It's hard not to respect a guy who went right from haughty Phillips Academy to become the youngest Navy flyer in World War II and getting shot down in the Pacific. He probably could have chosen an easier and safer way to serve had he wanted to.
