7.0 earthquake hits near Anchorage

It is unclear how much damage has been sustained. The 7.0 quake was about centered about 7 miles north of Anchorage, which is Alaska's biggest city. I was just there (including probably right at the epicenter) in late July, just 2-3 weeks before my health problems showed up.

A tsunami warning has been issued for the area.

This quake was still small compared to the 1964 Prince William Sound quake, which was 9.2 -- over 100 times more powerful. That one was one of the biggest quakes ever recorded in the world. Prince William Sound is east of Anchorage, but still considered to be the greater Anchorage area.

Anyway, clearly the area is very prone to quakes.

They just had a live aftershock shown from one of the news studios down there in Anchorage.

Gonna throw this out here.. If you want some free money easy bet that oil prices will rise already up over $1/bbl today likely expect a continuing rise depending on what damage reports come out.. They already expect it to affect oil deliveries out of Alaska thus affecting supplies maybe for weeks possibly months.. Prices were up 2 1/2% for the day but RBOB (which is unleaded gasoline wholesale) was up almost 4%.. Good bet the price of gas that's been going down is going to spike now as well just in time for the rest of the holiday travels in December to New Years.
