sticky this thread please
the best thread of 2016 by far
Sonatine is my boy, but this is funny as shit.
I've always had PCs, and Duke 3D was a fun game- but Macs had Marathon, which was actually much better. Bungie pioneered a lot of stuff in that game, like mouse look and dual wield.
This is A++++ material and saved the year 2016.
I was kind of disappointed in the ending but am hoping there will be a prequel?
I had Rise of the Triad as well. such a good game. Wolfsenstein on crack is what I called it. Was big into Doom series (still play Brutal Doom) and of course played the Duke Nukems. childhoooood.
I bought a compaq persario in 98 for playing doom on lans.

I want to say the first alternate fire was in Star Wars: Dark Forces in 1995. I remember that because during that winter of 1995/1996, John Carmack came on IRC channel #Quake and I asked him if his upcoming game Quake would have alternate fire, and he gave me a polite "no".
Rise of the Triad was created by id Software co-founder Tom Hall after he quit and went to work for George Broussard. I remember playing it, but don't remember loving it. It was re-released a couple years ago on Steam, which in proper Steam fashion, I bought on sale and have never played.
I've never played Dark Forces. I'll have to see if I can fire that up on DOSBox soon.
Wasn't really a big Quake fan. I had it and played the shit out of it, but for some reason I just found it to be not as smooth as Doom/Duke.
Triad definately hasn't aged well. I'm not sure if your version has been updated any, but the version I had was very buggy. These were the fucking days when you had to wait for a fan patch to be uploaded. Kids today have got it too good. I can remember having to wait 20 mins for R-Type to load off of casette on my C-64.
