If you haven't noticed, take a look at just about any forum, and there is a huge decline in activity since the rise of Reddit.
This place actually hasn't declined that much in activity level since opening, which is a huge accomplishment for a forum opened in 2012.
There is also always natural attrition of certain posters, no matter how the forum is run.
The "I'm leaving because of X people" is a lame thing to say, because basically that's advocating for a circle jerk where only the popular posters remain.
Sure, I could restrict limitles, FPS_Russia, or whoever, but it's just a matter of time until people are butthurt about the next people I "need" to take care of.
I'm not dismissing the valid points that some people are overposting a lot of shit, and as I said recently, I might be handing out some restrictions again soon.
But then we also have people leaving because of others' political views, which is their right to do, but is just stupid. Should I enforce a monolith of thought like Siicon Valley has been doing lately? This community has always been about freedom of expression, and it's actually far LESS offensive than "in its prime" NWP which was infested with gratuitous racism and hardcore porn.
I basically am letting this place mostly run itself, with the occasional intervention when someone is fucking everything up.
Also, notice a lot of the people on the "chased away" list were partially or mostly responsible for their own demise here.
I also take the time to post content to get conversations started, even sometimes intentionally opening myself to trolling and/or criticism by doing so. I'm trying to keep this place interesting, but I can't do it alone. PFA is what you make of it.
This reminds me a bit of Micon's Vegas buddies in 2011. He kept asking them, "Why don't you participate in my Donkdown site?", and a few of them blamed it on me.
"I don't like Druff. If he wasn't around, I would totally be posting there all the time", some of them said.
Then Micon forced me out, and not a single one of them returned. I was just an excuse because none of them wanted to be part of it, and they didn't want to get into an argument with him about it.
I can pretty much guarantee that if I banned every one of the "uncool" posters here, the so-called "good" posters wouldn't come back and post actively long-term.
It has nothing to do with being cool or popular. It's about the fucking terrible posters that you allow to post in volume unchecked.
You only restrict after they have made the forum unreadable for extended periods of time.

I recall this. I can’t remmeber what irritated me that I had to buy some months ago, but I was trying to remember who made that thread to search it. I kind of skimmed it at the time iirc, and assumed what he was doing was akin to shoplifting, but I didn’t remember the details. I can’t even remember what I had to keep buying that made me think about it. Next time I’ll be able to search his name when I feel like sticking it to a store.
NaturalBornHustler is another poster. I don’t know if chased off is correct. I found his departure strange timing. I think he simply left. He was really big on Trump, and seemed to disappear at a time when Trump reached his pinnacle, which seemed odd. But it may have been because the other people in the Trump camp also tended to be people he’d previously went to war with.
I had a Baltimore question some time ago and it dawned on me he had been gone a long while. Iirc, he was going through a divorce and child support shit, so that might have been the impetus to leave.
