He escaped death by taking refuge in a stream at the bottom of a ravine
The other five people that were traveling behind him died in their cars
Woodcox took a video of the grisly aftermath, which his nephew posted online
His nephew said the video was worth sharing if it helped save any lives
Paradise residents said that it was insensitive to show the charred remains

Woodcox and the people who he managed to alert, drove down a road to escape, but one of the cars got stuck in the road, trapping all the others behind him. By the time Woodcox realized that nobody was following him, the fire had reached the cars.

He said he managed to escape the flames by following a fox that he saw running for a path, leading him to a three-foot deep stream in a ravine. He submerged himself in the water for 45 minutes as the fire burned over him, describing the water as the 'hottest hot tub I've ever felt.'

Forty yards away, were the cars that had gotten trapped, containing the charred remains of his five friends — said to be the first five Camp Fire victims.

Woodcox used his cellphone to document what he saw left behind by the fire, including the dead bodies which are burned beyond recognition.

He kept himself under water for 45 minutes? And then his cell phone miraculously worked? And his truck was unscathed?
Also a fox appeared out of nowhere that lead him to the creek.

I don't know what to think of that fox story but that grill on his vehicle is melted and missing and his tires are much thicker.
    Nat geo
Heat can kill too—even organisms buried deep in the ground, such as fungi. Jane Smith, a mycologist with the U.S. Forest Service in Corvallis, Oregon, has measured temperatures as high as 1,292 degrees Fahrenheit (700 degrees Celsius) beneath logs burning in a wildfire, and 212 degrees Fahrenheit (100 degrees Celsius) a full two inches (five centimeters) below the surface.
If the govt's answer to climate change is a new tax then fuck that, I can already see that money getting diverted to the war machine and shipped off to the middle east.
    so
Was it climate change that caused this fire to be so extreme? idk
    but
Wind probably has the biggest impact on a wildfire's behavior. It also the most unpredictable factor. Winds supply the fire with additional oxygen, further dry potential fuel and push the fire across the land at a faster rate.

Clark's research has found that not only does wind affect how the fire develops, but that fires themselves can develop wind patterns. When the fire creates its own weather patterns, they can feed back into how the fire spreads. Large, violent wildfires can generate winds, called fire whirls. Fire whirls, which are like tornadoes, result from the vortices created by the fire's heat. When these vortices are tilted from horizontal to vertical, you get fire whirls. Fire whirls have been known to hurl flaming logs and burning debris over considerable distances.

"There's another way that you can tilt the vorticity. That is it can be titled without breaking into fire whirls, and basically be burst forward into what's called hairpin vortices or forward bursts," Clark said. "These are quite common in crown fires [fires at the top of trees], and so you see fires licking up hill sides." Forward bursts can be 20 meters (66 feet) wide and shoot out 100 meters (328 feet) at a speed of 100 mph (161 kph). These bursts leave a scorched region and lead to fire spread.

The stronger the wind blows, the faster the fire spreads. The fire generates winds of its own that are as many as 10 times faster than the ambient wind. It can even throw embers into the air and create additional fires, an occurrence called spotting. Wind can also change the direction of the fire, and gusts can raise the fire into the trees, creating a crown fire.
    That's huge

Probably the best way to fight climate change is to gut the MIC budget. Can you imagine the amount of fuel burned by just their aircraft and heavy equipment. All over the world 24/7.

    Oh yeah
Just in time for that overdue earthquake or a period of heavy rain.

In addition to the damage that fires cause as they burn, they can also leave behind disastrous problems, the effects of which might not be felt for months after the fire burns out. When fires destroy all the vegetation on a hill or mountain, it can also weaken the organic material in the soil and prevent water from penetrating the soil. One problem that results from this is extremely dangerous erosion that can lead to debris flows.

Some people are alive simply because it's illegal to kill them.

It’s very difficult to sift through the noise and the nonsense but here’s a truth. PG&E Pacific Gas & Electric stock is getting murdered.

    Ticker is PCG

    50 —> a low of 25 Maybe $32 now.

When I rode dirt bikes in New England, a favorite ride was following the big transmission lines through the forest. Brush and trees were largely removed and you could hammer it for miles and miles.

It never occurred to me until these Cali fires that they were a forest fire threat in other environments.

The President of PG&E is some woman named Geisha Williams. Geisha? That’s like a boy named Sue. I’ll walk the other side of the street from her.
Looking more like 2 ignitions under PG&E lines. Every photo of devastation includes trees and smaller vegetation hard up against structures. Peeps love living in the forest until... Over 900 still missing, has to suck to be one of the searchers looking thru ashes all day.

How is the game there these days? Haven’t been there for a few years. It was fairly tough back then. I always thought the 20/40 at Hawaiian Gardens was softer.

    Great game both days.

Won both sessions but not big. Actually ran bad but was able to still book winners because the players were so awful. Definitely far softer than the Commerce and Bellagio 20-40s (especially Bellagio, which has gotten a lot tougher with the 40-80 failing to start these days).

The "1000 missing" in the Paradise fire isn't getting enough play in the media.

How can 1000 people be missing by this point? Shouldn't their whereabouts be known?

I wonder if we really will see a death toll well over 500. Very tragic. Entire town just wiped off the map.

I agree. Right from the start when they reported under 10 dead but 100's missing I said that number is going to climb in a hurry.

If there are still 1000 missing, at a bare minimum that has to be 300-400 dead.

That’s fine. What I object to is comparing these numbers to old school disasters.

You and I know it’s a different game today since Global Warming changed the rules.

Not watching doesn’t mean we can’t take the easy total over.

They have only searched 1,000 houses, with 9,000 more to go. Seems like 400 would be best case. This is the West Coast’s 9/11 / Katrina.

I viewed the coverage of the Camp Fire in Paradise in real time on a livestream on YouTube. Info from first responders radio traffic said 400+ were trapped at a K-Mart and were being rescued seconds before the end of the broadcast. Did the 400+ not survive the bus trip to safety? Just speculating

    BUMP

Did some disaster tourism today related to the fire.

Couldn't get to some of the sites I wanted to see, but I did get to most of what I wanted to visit.

    Here are a few pictures:

Camp Hess Kramer in Malibu, a Jewish sleepaway camp I attended in 1982, which still operated until the recent fire. It was mostly destroyed. It was my first time away from my parents.

Mulholland Highway near Agoura Hills, right next to the Peter Strauss Ranch (which was also destroyed). The fire was so hot that it warped the metal, and the bridge fell apart.

The Paramount Ranch, mentioned earlier in this thread, filming site of many movies and TV shows (mostly western-themed ones). It was open to the public, even during filming.

Here's what it used to look like:
