    RIP Tony from 5 Dimes?

“Tony” is (was) a legend in the offshore sportsbook world. Famous in prop betting and angle shooting circles for confiscating accounts with action he felt was unfair to the book.

I just heard about this a few minutes ago, too.

Those bastards at 5D still haven't sent me my BTC. Not surprised he got kidnapped tbh.

Spin this out 2 or 3 moves.

Daly can express as several props

Does 5Dimes lock up until resolved? Guess not. This is old news. Is that a tell?

Was his real name known before all this happened? I'd love to see a picture of him to put a face to one of the biggest assholes I've ever dealt with in my life. (He is called William Sean Creighton and William Sean...not sure which last name is last name) Always imagined he looked like a fatter greasier version of Tony G...prob just subconsciously assuming all scummy people named Tony look the same.

    Found more info.

    https://calvinayre.com/2018/10/17/bu...ted-kidnapped/
    https://www.crhoy.com/nacionales/oij...o-de-apuestas/
    http://www.diarioextra.com/Noticia/d...stro-de-gringo

    Cliffs according to tabloids:

Someone made him crash his porsche on the way home from work, kidnapped him and demanded ransom. Wife called police, they did nothing. Ransom was paid (either 750k or 1m in bitcoin...Tony got on phone with wife to prove he was alive). That was all around September 24. Tony still missing.

    Translated 'tabloid' article:

A group of exagentes of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) of the United States works in conjunction with officers of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) in order to find the whereabouts of a businessman from the capital known as Tony, whom they keep kidnapped.

The nightmare for this man of American nationality began on Monday, September 24, when he was last seen leaving his office, located in San Pedro, Montes de Oca, in a Porsche Cayenne Turbo vehicle for his home.

Tony traveled at 10 pm in the sector of San Isidro, Heredia, when he was intercepted by two gunmen on a motorcycle, who pointed it out, and two others who were in a black BMW X6 stopped in front to be shocked, so the gringo was on the side of the track on a fence.

Another version that is handled is that the subjects, one of them of black race and with good handling of English, because the businessman almost does not speak Spanish, arrived in a taxi where his driver always wore a motorcycle helmet.

At 3 am, the victim's wife received a phone call from the captors, who apparently are Ticos, and told him that they were keeping him in captivity. To see him again alive, he had to pay a reward as soon as possible. They allowed him to express that he was fine.

Former FBI are sponsored by Tony's wife, however is considered the main suspect, as the police begins to discard people in the first instance of the nearest nucleus, who know the movements and assets that has.

Without thinking twice the desperate woman agreed to the requests and conditions of payment, so she deposited, apparently, $ 750 thousand in virtual currency (only electronic form is exchanged, for which a computer network is used, usually connected to the Internet , and a digitally stored value system).

At 9 am the spouse decided to contact the OIJ and filed the respective complaint so that the investigations could begin, however it seems that the investigations are not progressing.

    MUDA EVIDENCE

Minutes later, officers of the Public Force arrived at the "levante" zone, where they located the Porsche without occupants and crashed.

They coordinated with the Traffic Police, who took down the plates to the luxurious car, which is registered in the name of a society and was confiscated by the OIJ.

Confidential sources mentioned to DIARIO EXTRA that Tony could be in the Caribbean area, but the police fear the worst, since after the payment, the wife or some of his relatives have not received any contact, so a dozen private gringo investigators joined.

The search has been concentrated in Sarapiquí, Siquirres, Guápiles, Guácimo and Limón, without having any clue as to where it could be, including the fact that it was removed from the country by the northern border or in the worst case buried in a banana farm.

It transpired that the kidnapped was carrying a laptop and a cell phone that the criminals stole and pledged, but the police recovered them. Computer engineers analyzed them to look for some information that leads to the whereabouts of the businessman, who was wearing a red shirt and black pants.

The authorities do not rule out that some close person is the mastermind, who "put" it so that they take it without major problem, because it is a businessman who does not give evidence of the economic power that he has, including it is known that he usually wears diver trousers, T-shirts and sandals.

Private investigators handle the version that the money deposited for the rescue of Tony, who also owns several bookmakers, would have received Cuban citizens living on the island and some intellectual authors left our country.

In addition, the gringo is one of the majority partners of a company that is looking for foreigners to invest in Costa Rica, where he has been living with his wife Tica and other relatives in the eastern sector of San José for more than 10 years.

    FROM FAST TO SLOW

What draws the attention of those close to Tony is the slowness with which the OIJ has worked on this case, which is almost one month old, while the kidnapping of an Oriental was resolved in a week, despite the fact that the reward payment It was less.

The subjects kidnapped the Chinese woman on September 30 and after paying for her release $ 17,500 (approximately ¢ 9 million), the OIJ agents rescued her alive on October 5 at night in a busy street in Escazú.

The accused were identified with the surnames Gamboa Garita (female), Brenes Guillén, Cordero Montoya, Jiménez Calderón, Obando Corrales and Méndez Zamora, who apparently threatened the eastern woman with a firearm and put her in a car, where they asked her , in the first instance, the husband $ 200 thousand.

When they arrived at an agreed point, there were two vehicles, a white one in which the victim was and a black one in which the money of the rescue supposedly was. When the individuals came to collect the money, cops coached them. The couple of Chinese maintains in the country a company of import of articles and at the same time distributed to different oriental shops.

The Best Selling Newspaper in Costa Rica learned that there are about 10 kidnappings in Limón every year, with the particularity that there are no complaints before the OIJ, as these are cases of drug trafficking where the victims are drug lords and among them are They arrange with bullet or with executions.

he left the 5dimes' office late at night on the 24th of September in San Pedro of Montes de Oca

This looks like an assasination covered up by a kidnap plot, someone wanted him dead, I doubt it was his wife.

Very possible that someone was trying to tax Tony and Tony wasn't budging.....

Since he probably won't be coming back to get anyone here, now's the time to open up regarding Tony stories.

I kept hearing bad things about the guy, which kept me from 5Dimes for awhile, though I eventually opened an account there.

Most of the "bad" stories I've heard involve people who were pulling some kind of shenanigan (such as betting on an already-completed game or grossly incorrect line), and then Tony would punish them in some way.

But I'd like to hear more details from anyone here with personal experience with the guy.

I did always worry that, if I had any dispute with 5 Dimes over anything, Tony would tell me to go fuck myself. Never had an issue with them, though.

    Late 2014, early 2015:

I had been playing on the 5dimes WPN Skin "The Shark Tank" for about 6 months, had a few 3-5k cashouts and a bunch of $500-1k deposits, all with Bitcoin, all processed in 2 hours - 2 days.

Had a big sunday that ended with 35k balance.

Decided to make ~$5k worth of bets on the superbowl (which was happening the next sunday) and make a 28k cashout. Same process as always. (submit request, receive email asking me to respond with btc address, username and password(lol) ) 3 days later, nothing paid. Talked to support, got strung along for a couple days.

Eventually I started asking to speak to a manager, got on live chat with one (not Tony) who told me the payment was sent days ago and even confirmed my BTC address. I tried to explain to them that you could just look at the address on any block explorer and see it wasn't there...eventually got connected with Tony and he basically accused me of trying to scam them by getting a double cashout. Convo ended with him saying he would check on it and get back to me on monday, but he was sure I was lying.

Superbowl comes, obv I do pretty well and now have another 13k in account.

Monday and Tues goes by, no word from Tony and support basically won't talk to me.

Wed, I get support to get Tony to call me. Now he starts accusing me of making bets for someone else that's banned because I had never bet sports before and all the sudden bet 5k. Things escalate, he def insulted my mom and cursed a lot - told me my account was closed and to basically fuck off. We never even got to the missing btc payment.

I'm obviously fucking furious. Was planning on posting on every forum I could find - this was a ton of money for me at the time.

About 12 hours later, my btc payment came through, account was unlocked and all my winnings from superbowl were in there. I cashed everything out, got it within an hour and confirmed I was still welcome to play on the site.

There was absolutely nothing shady about my super bowl bets. They were mostly $100 - $500 props. and I think a $2k money line. I literally just pulled them out of my ass.

    Interesting story.

Do you think Tony sheepishly later realized that you were right, and quickly sent that BTC cashout to you?

That's what it sounds like happened in this story.

Bovada actually pulled something similar on me once, though not nearly as bad.

I had a $9500 BTC cashout coming (the max they allow), and it took uncharacteristically long. They didn't claim they had sent the BTC, but rather were just swearing that they were really backed up and were taking a long time to process them. I accepted this explanation, but after 7 days had passed, I went to the 2+2 Bovada payout thread, and saw that people were requesting and receiving them within 2 days. I called back Bovada and told them this, and the rep pretended not to understand me and kept saying it was "in process".

I wouldn't take no for an answer, and kept demanding to know why others' cashouts days after mine were already processed, while mine was not. Keep in mind I had made tons of $9500 cashouts prior to this, so it wasn't an issue of having to check my account for any cheating or weirdness.

Well, finally I was put on hold while the rep talked to "the payout department". After 15 minutes on hold, she came back and said, "The payout department said that they don't know what you're talking about, and they already sent the bitcoin days ago. Can you check again?"

I told her that I checked before the phone call, and that anything sent "days ago" would have already been there. She said, "Please check one ore time."

I checked, and shock upon shocks, the $9500 was suddenly there.

So clearly they decided to pay me because I made enough of a stink about the delay, and then lied about having sent it days prior.

Still don't know why that happened.

Anyway, your story is exactly the type of shit I was worried about regarding Tony. I don't think the guy was a scammer, but was far too prideful and confrontational. So in a case like yours, his default was to immediately believe you're trying to screw him, and then insult you and screw you over in the process. Seems like he was honest enough to actually pay you upon realizing he was wrong (without apologizing, of course), but that doesn't excuse any of this.

I'm actually surprised these kidnappings don't happen more often in places like Costa Rica. Long before this Tony kidnapping, I used to wonder how dangerous it was for rich Americans living in places like that, especially ones conducting shady businesses like online bookmaking.

Tony was the perfect victim because:

    - He was wealthy.
    - He had a lot of BTC instantly at his disposal. The average person has to go through a lot of trouble to acquired $750k in BTC, and it might take some time.
    - He was blatantly breaking US law and living in Costa Rica so he could get away with it. Thus, the US government might just say "lol expat criminals" and not try very hard to help solve the matter.

Notice the US media doesn't even give a shit about this, whereas if it happened to a more "legitimate" businessman, I bet we'd be seeing it all over the news.

Here it is probably being dismissed as a shady bookie living abroad getting kidnapped by other criminals and held for ransom, and the media probably sees it as criminal-on-criminal violence, thus not worth reporting.

    it's true...wow

    https://news.co.cr/us-expat-and-spor...ta-rica/76844/

Today Creighton’s body was found, and as per our sources the strong suspicion is that he was a victim of a kidnap- for- hire scheme hatched by someone very close to him. Cause of death is yet to be established. Creighton’s wife allegedly had the ransom money wired to a family member of hers, reportedly the lesser $750,000 request.
The OIJ will be investigating further, and report their conclusions in the coming week. Fellow sportsbook operation owners in Costa Rica have expressed their sadness and regret at Creighton’s tragic death.
