Here are the symptoms of sleep apnea:
- Loud snoring
- Episodes in which you stop breathing during sleep — which would be reported by another person
- Gasping for air during sleep
- Awakening with a dry mouth
- Morning headache
- Difficulty staying asleep (insomnia)
- Excessive daytime sleepiness (hypersomnia)
- Difficulty paying attention while awake
- Irritability
These aren't my symptoms, aside from the dry mouth (which I've had for years with no real problems).
My problem is falling asleep, not staying asleep. Once I'm asleep for about 15 minutes, I stay asleep normally. I do have the problem with being able to fall back asleep if I've had more than 5 hours already, but again, not sleep apnea.
My sleep-related issue is an irritation in my throat which gives me the impression I can't breathe, which makes me unable to fall asleep.
