The sex-work-positive message from the far left has always baffled me.
It's one thing to decriminalize it. It's another to legitimize it as a career choice.
Sex work is actually very psychologically damaging to most women who engage in the profession. There's a good reason to discourage young women from going this direction, as they damage themselves -- sometimes irreparably. The stress and depressing nature of the job also leads a lot of sex workers to heavy drug use, which in turn pushes them into more sex work to pay for their habit.
A true feminist would see sex work as something degrading to women -- turning them into objects to be bought, sold, and sometimes degraded by men, and at the expense of their long term mental health. Feminists used to be anti sex work, but that has changed in recent years, which makes little sense.
This is basically a case of the left taking the contrary position to the right, without really thinking about it.
"Well, the right says sex work is bad, and they speak badly of the women who engage in that profession, so we need to say it's good and a totally legit career choice!"
