i think it's fair to say there are similarities in both her and trump's approach/popularity. she's not "polished" like a typical politician and doesn't try to make sure everything she says makes sense 100% of the time. didn't she say something like there's a trillion dollars of unaccounted-for money at the pentagon that could be used for universal health care, something the washington post gave her 4 pinocchios for?
we all know i despise trump so it may seem like i'm criticizing AOC for comparing her to him, but i'm really not trying to.
it seems like she's of the school of thought that it's more important to be passionate and reasonate with the voters than to make sure you stay on script and remain "presidential." and she's probably right. this is the core of my comparison between them
also please don't say that i think they're comparable morally. i think trump is morally bankrupt and a complete clown. i don't think AOC knows what she's talking about a lot the time, but she seems like a good person and ethical.
also weird sidenote. i really think a lot of the anti-establishment "burn the system" down trump voter would vote for AOC in a heartbeat.

i think shes just passionate, frankly. i dont think its manufactured or some sort of populist subterfuge. she wants to save the world and people who also want to save the world are drawn to her for obvious reasons.
my objection to your take on that dynamic is that you somehow are reading something cynical into it, and i dont think that take is accurate.
forgivable, yes, least of all considering what we've seen in the last 30 months or so. but i think something else is going on here with her and its real and refreshing and will likely get her assassinated by a trump voter with a history of mental illness who names his guns after biblical passages.

Other than recently entering the political stage I know nothing about this woman... But, despite being American, I'm simply not having that she believes that we all die in 12 years. Surely she's been taken out of context and used by climate deniers to further their argument.
And speaking of these climate deniers. The ones getting rich on the back of pollution to our planet I consider lower than child killers. Those bastards are responsible for the vast majority of propaganda by funding/lobbying influential figures to argue against the science. They are pure evil but their motivation is clear as day.
The people I don't understand, are those who will suffer the least from cutting harmful emissions into the atmosphere. They've chosen a side on the biggest issue which humans will ever face. A side which goes against 90%+ of all the scientists on earth.

she didn't elaborate beyond this, but i looked into it a bit more and she was almost certainly referencing a UN report that says we have 12 years left to make changes before the global temperature goes up 1.5 degrees celsius, which apparently is a point at which there will be flooding, extreme heat, starvation in areas, etc.
so you and sonatine are probably right. i'm sure she didn't actually mean that the world is ending in 12 years, but that within 12 years, serious damage will happen if we don't fix it.
