McDonald's and their $1 fresh beef quarter pounders

The MoviePass thread made me think about how much of a hit fast food restaurants like McDonald's will end up taking on promoting insane offers on there mobile app.

Currently you can get many sandwiches (one per day) like this 100% fresh beef quarter pounder with cheese they just went to a few months back for only $1 by ordering through the app.

The kicker is if people just order that for $1 plus sales tax (where applicable) and nothing else they have to charge it (app don't accept cash in store) so all of these $1 transactions contain a ton of credit card fees on the back end. We are talking about them eating like 20 to 30 cents per $1 transaction while offering a sandwich for maybe 25% of what they normally charge.

I almost bought movies pass but kept on putting it off. I have so many re accuring subscription,s...

I WOULD actually go more to the movies if I had it. and to be honest if it's a good movie I always end up spending $20 in concessions. Sometimes more when I get a couple of hard rootbeers.

The only thing that stopped me was that the movie pass app is a lot of jittery mumbo jumbo.

It isn't like the gym where people are going to keep a subscrition out of guilt/sense of purpose. They're going to subscribe if they get at least one movie a month. For the most part, moviepass would end up with a ton of customers who are squeezing a ton of value out of it. I have no interest in the product so I'd be the perfect customer. The poeple who like it the most are the ones they'll lose the most on. Concessions? The cheap penny pinchers getting this thing aren't going to be buying $7 popcorns or whatever it is. Like I can't even think of a way this could work out... It almost seems like insanity. I'd love to see their investment pitches. Must have been magic.

It's the same with so many other fail ideas I see which somehow get millions or tens of millions of investment money.

Amazes me how people smart enough to earn/manage big money can somehow sink their dollars into obvious losing investments.

And how about that $8 million "loan" they recently got, so they could stay afloat? Who gave them that?

I see this all the time regarding various poker failbusiness ideas.

As you pointed out, MoviePass' likely customer base was to be "value" moviegoers -- ones who would cost them money.

This is in an age when companies are finally realizing that their best bet is to softly push away the low-margin or negative-margin customer types. This is exactly why casinos are worsening their games, and why cruise ships are getting away from last-minute, super-cheap dumping of remaining cabins.

Not sure what the prior poster was talking about, but the new Quarter Pounders from McDonald's are top shelf for fast food. The drawback is you might have to wait a few minutes which sucks if you are in the drive thru line and have to do the annoying pull up and wait while people drive around you. But they are good, hot and fresh.

I am in the minority, not a McDonald fry fan, they are not cooked enough for me, I like my fries crisp so I simply get a six piece nugget as my side which ironically have less calories than a large fry by a wide margin.

Compare that to the "white meat" Wendy's nuggets, which, while still chopped-and-formed, actually taste like chicken and are damn good. I just wish they didn't discontinue the spicy ones, as those were even better.

Regarding Chick Fil-A, while I love their customer service and their fuck you attitude regarding the SJW attacks on their religious beliefs, I'm not a huge fan of their food. Their chicken strips just aren't that good. In fact, I find them kind of hard to chew. It seems like they're supposed to be good, but just aren't. Even Benjamin agrees.
