THIS should be the definition of insanity

    http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-news...ous-observance

Jarrett Nash, a 24-year-old poker player from Texas, entered the fifth day of play at the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event with a stack of more than 500,000. However, he didn’t show up because of the Jewish Sabbath, Card Player was told over the phone by his cousin.

He blinded out in 171st place for a score of $44,655.

“He’s just not there due to his wife’s religion, I guess,” said the cousin, who wished not to be mentioned by name. “He’s in his hotel room with her until 8ish. They are recently married and what not, so this is the first time this has happened. And I believe this is his first big [poker] payout.”

The floor staff at the WSOP also confirmed the story, telling Card Player that Nash told them after day 4 that he wouldn’t show up because of the religious observance.

The cousin said that “to his knowledge” Nash isn’t even Jewish, unless he converted after the marriage.

Nash is staying in his room at the Bellagio. Card Player was connected to Nash’s room at the casino, but the attempt to contact him was unsuccessful.

His family, at first, was wondering where he was and if he was “healthy,” the cousin said.

The 2012 Main Event will award $8.5 million to the winner. Nash entered play with just 282 remaining out of the 6,598-player starting field.

Jack Effel, tournament director for the World Series, said players not showing up for the later days of tournaments for various reasons actually isn’t unheard of.

As of around 6 p.m. local time in Las Vegas, Nash hadn’t picked up his prize money.

You would think of all the religions that the Jewish faith could rationalize saying fuck the sabbath in an effort to win the gold.

Fuck this guy, what an unbelievable joke.

Why did he even play the main? It' like the euro guy last year (or the year before?) leaving his stack because he had a flight to catch.
Also did he madly try and run up his stack at the end of day 4 hoping he could blind his way through day 5?

Micon needs to do a lot more praying at the synagogue and less at the casino from the looks of things.
When faced with a difficult decision, ask yourself "What would Micon do?", then do the opposite.

Too bad you can't sell your seat to someone else. I'd imagine that there would be a whole lot of pro's who'd pay a fortune for a spot like that.

The guy isn't even Jewish. He's "non-denominational Christian" with a Baptist upbringing. There are some Christian groups, mostly Seventh Day Adventists, that do Saturday Sabbath. I'm just really shocked that he's so religious that he won't play cards on Saturday, but is willing to gamble in the first place. Most hardcore Baptists are very anti-gambling.

For thousands of years, a week has been from Sunday to Saturday. I never understood how mainstream Christians interpreted god resting on the 7th day to mean Sunday.

Sure. But this one seems so straightforward on the surface.

It just makes me shake my head when Christians, Jews, and Muslims hate each other over religion. I just want to scream at all of them "You all believe the same retarded shit."

So you're saying the Seventh Day Adventists are right

When I first heard about it I thought he was going to be Seventh Day, as I know one who won't open his Karate studio on Saturdays despite it being the #1 day for classes, but then the Jewish thing got kicked around. Seventh Day Adventists do consider themselves non-denominational (and are suppose to be very tolerant of other religions). It actually makes more sense that he is Seventh Day because they are VERY serious about their religion and this is like the #1 tenet of their faith

I guess nobody will ever question if this kid is a true believer
