In case you're wondering, my plan with my final 9k was to put it in on turn unless board paired. Could have folded flop but decided I wanted chance at big pot + had backdoor low & flush draws. #pfa35

Both bullets saw brutal bustout hands -- both in big pots. The first I was beaten by a terrible call, the second I was beaten by a 4-outer river. Oh well... that's poker. Doing $1500 NL tomorrow at 11am, my 2nd and final NL event prior to the Main. #pfa35

Sooo... as I tweeted, this was brutal.

This event sees a LOT of conservative play. Everyone pretty much just keeps pots small until they get a spot they like, and there isn't even much 3-betting pre. Everyone good just sees flops cheaply and then fires only when they've hit.

So I have 23k and I finally get a good Big O hand. I hardly played any Big O hands because I just always seemed to be dealt something terrible. But here I got Ah2h3hQxTx which is a monster.

    Had 23k. Average about 30k. Blinds in Big O/PLO 8 were 250-500, and 500/1k in O8.

Early position raised to 1k. I decided to flat on the button, not wanting to commit a lot pre with a hand which has to hit something to win (even though it's a great hand). I might have 3-bet with a big stack, but my stack was small enough to where I didn't want to waste a lot and then miss.

Well, SB 3-bet anyway to 4250. BB folded, EP called, I called.

Flop came J97 rainbow with 1 heart.

    Pot was almost 14k.

SB checked, so clearly he had a low hand and missed, and was done.

EP fired 9500. I had a little under 19k left.

In slow-moving events like this, I don't like just shoving it in and gambling. At the same time, I couldn't see folding here. This was my opportunity to win a big pot and move well beyond average stack. It would be 51k if we got all our chips in (which was highly likely if I wanted it) and won.

However, I decided I didn't want to put it all in yet. Knowing the SB was almost surely folding behind, I knew I could just call the 9500 and leave myself 9k just in case the board paired the turn, which would very likely leave me drawing dead. Any non-J/9/7, I was calling a turn all-in.

Of course, so many cards could improve my hand or draw here -- any non-9/7 heart, any A/2/3/4/5/6, and of course any K or 8 would give me the nuts.

Turn was an 8, making the board fully rainbow.

He fired all in and I snap-called.

He turned over J9 with 3 other irrelevant cards (he wasn't even chopping the low if it hit the river). He said, "Well, I've got 2 pair..."

When he saw my hand, he whined, "How do you call that flop?"

    Huh???

    River 9.

    Brutal.

He obnoxiously proclaimed, "...And it's a full house!", to needle me.

    Asshole.

Only regret is that I didn't talk shit to him about both his whining and needling. But I was too shocked by what happened, plus the table was breaking, so I just grabbed my stuff and dejectedly walked away.

51k freaking pot, and he hits the 4-outer on the river.
