Pope Francis on Thursday ended his emergency summit with Chile's bishops by thanking them for their 'full willingness' to do whatever it takes to recover from a sex abuse and cover-up scandal that has discredited the church


The bishops (pictured with the Pope at the Vatican) also apologised to Chile, the victims of abuse and the pope for the scandal as they released an extraordinary joint statement
The bishops announced at the end of an emergency summit with Pope Francis that all 31 active bishops and three retired ones in Rome had signed a document offering to resign and putting their fate in the hands of the pope.
Francis can accept the resignations one by one, reject them or delay a decision.
It marked the first known time in history that an entire national bishops conference had offered to resign en masse over scandal, and laid bare the devastation that the abuse crisis has caused the Catholic Church in Chile and beyond.

Johnny was fucked by a priest when he was a kid. I asked him why he didn't join the lawsuit when everyone came out with it. He is so broke and at least he could live a better life. I can't describe the look on his face when I asked him that. It was a strange mix of absolute horror and shame. Honestly don't think he would have been able to survive the proceedings and dredging all that up.

In 2012, a former molestation victim from the '70s tracked down the now-elderly priest who molested him and beat his ass.

The priest had escaped justice over the years despite tons of molestations, including ones against his own nieces. He was one of the rare molesters who went after both genders.

This particular instance of molestation was especially bad, as the priest forced the victim as a 6-year-old to have oral sex with his younger brother while the priest jerked off, and then he threatened both boys that he'd kill their parents if they told anyone.

The victim was then charged with assault for his attempt at vigilante justice, but a jury acquitted him simply because the priest was a piece of shit and everyone believed he had it coming.

The "legal" defense was that he simply went down to tell the guy to turn himself in, but then the priest "leered" at him in the same way he did when he molested him in the 70s, which caused him to snap and attack the priest. Probably BS, but it was good enough for the jury, which I'm sure believed the beating was planned, but still didn't mind.

Adelaide Archbishop Philip Wilson, the most senior Catholic official in the world to be charged with covering up child sexual abuse, has been found guilty.
Magistrate Robert Stone told Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday Wilson had concealed the abuse of two altar boys in the NSW Hunter region by paedophile priest James Fletcher by failing to report the allegations to police.
Mr Stone said he was satisfied one of the altar boys, Peter Creigh, had been a 'truthful and reliable' witness.
In a statement issued by the Catholic Church, Wilson said he was 'disappointed' by the decision.
