Las Vegas hotel workers could strike starting June 1, affecting operations during WSOP

    http://q13fox.com/2018/05/09/50000-v...over-contract/

On May 22, they will vote whether or not to strike, which would take place as soon as June 1 if approved.

This is the Culinary Union, which covers restaurant workers, housekeepers, and a lot of other hotel staff. It does NOT cover casino employees.

If this strike were to take place, the WSOP itself could still operate, but restaurants on properties may be closed or crippled, and hotel operations will also suffer immensely.

I remember the strike at the Binion's Horseshoe in the late 80's i think. The staff was picketing with baggies of cockroaches they said were from the restaurants. Kept me from eating, but I walked right past them to get to the casino.

Well Druff on the Brightside if they do strike itll be damn hard for them to be worried about opening hotel rooms with DND signs up they'll have to use what few hands they might have just to worry about cleaning rooms and probably will have a hellatime doing that as well..

It seems the enforcement of longstanding DND signs has been delayed due to the ongoing fight between the Culinary Union and Caesars over the matter.

I stayed at Harrah's Las Vegas for 3 nights in April, hung the DnD the entire time, and no one came in.

    How do you KNOW that?

Maybe they came into your room to make sure there was nothing untoward & left after being satisfied nothing was.

I hope they are protesting resort fees, charging for parking, and the elimination of Caesar's shuttle service. But alas I don't think so.

Some good news tho. I booked two free room offers at The Rampart and the M and was told that free room offers do not get charged resort fees anymore. So there's that.

I've got to believe that charging for parking is hurting these places more than they realize and really benefiting off strip properties. What are the chances this gets reversed in the future or is the cost benefit too large or do they still blame the shooting for occupancy rates being down? There's not much free stuff in Vegas anymore like in the good old days. #Sad

Looks like the WSOP will be spared the strike (if it happens).
