PFA History Report: BigDMcGee Created the Sonatine Persona

Some of you may be familiar with BigDMcGee, others may not be. To provide a short background on him, he has a pedigree of being the best poster on any forum he was a part of--he started out on the prestigious Full Contact Poker (FCP) forums endorsed by Daniel Negreanu before moving over to Neverwinpoker (NWP) where he basically crushed trolls 24/7. Although he hid in anonymity for his entire online posting career, what he has revealed about himself is that he is a son of a farmer from Lincoln, Nebraska, that he has a degree from Northwestern University, and that he is heavily into BDSM re-enactments at strip clubs. It was also at Neverwinpoker (NWP) where he became the mentor of sonatine, who without a doubt is the best poster on PFA right now (20,475 posts, 4,538 rep score, 0.222 ratio). Many old schoolers will be more than quick to agree that BigDMcGee created the sonatine character that graces PFA today.

Anyway, after the demise of AIM, our crew has been very nostalgic and hoping to re-connect with the man who used to be BigDMcGee. If you have any clues about his whereabouts, please report here ASAP.

BigDMcGee committed forum suicide after the PFA infiltration of the Skatz admin forum.

Specifically, BigDMcGee was caught betraying the trust of several AIM crew members, and posting a lot of full transcripts of AIM chat in the Skatz admin forum for all to see.

When it was outed that BigDMcGee was a snake in the grass, he left Skatz forever, never to be seen again. There was also some belief that he was concerned that this infiltration would somehow lead to unmasking his identity, as his privacy was super-important to him.



With that said, a BigDMcGee registered here in October 2017, but never posted. I did not make an attempt to verify its authenticity.

I will go as far to say that I was never considering taking any kind of action against BigDMcGee, nor was I ever considering posting any of his info.

Yeah I never trusted him. The way I saw it, either you are loyal to AIM crew, or you are loyal to IST. We never bothered to boot him though, he eventually booted himself for some strange reason.

I always found BigD an interesting poster. Miss talking Big10 football with him, as he always had that Nebraska helmet avatar. I believe I saw him first on FCP before here. I think that site predated NWP iirc.

I’m curious, in what way did he mentor Sonatine? I don’t recall them being similar posters. They were both incredibly smart guys. Both could be a bit contrarian. Both had eclectic tastes. BigD was educated rural guy posting on industrial farming, while Tine was definitely educated city guy. I recall it took me a minute to realize that was the case with BigD being really smart. I think maybe because I associated him with FCP, and that was mostly fanboys of DN. I would guess they’re peers agewise. I don’t think Tine has ever stated his age here, but I’ve always pegged him as very close to my own. When he talks of music or popular culture, he seems to recall things through the same prism and timeline as I do. Less sure on BigD. We were all younger then, but he struck me as likely about the same age also.

I’ve never had any involvement with AIM or the other forums, so it’s likely I missed the obvious similarities.

My memory is hazy on a lot of that period as I was sick, medicated, and posted less frequently. At one point, BigD was superheated at Druff, or vice versa, correct? Can’t remember over what.

It was never clear to me why BigDMcGee disliked me. With other Skatz guys, I understood the reasons they had issue with me, even if I thought the reasons were stupid.

BigDMcGee was one of those guys who I thought was essentially neutral on me, but turned out to actually have a strong dislike for me, dating way back.

Ironically, the reasons he stated on the Skatz forum basically revolved around his belief that I was manipulative and untrustworthy -- which turned out to be a perfect description of him.

When PFA went up in 2012, I was waiting for BigDMcgee to register here. He was active on Donkdown at the time, and often critical of Micon -- a combination you'd expect would have made him very likely to register here, even though we were never friends.

Instead, he privately swore on Skatz that he would never create an account here, and wrote some pretty nasty assessments of me as his stated reason why.

Again, he never supported his negative opinions of me with any real examples, nor did he and I ever have any kind of real forum fights with one another. I guess I just rubbed him the wrong way.

BTW, BCR, I believe you and sonatine are very close in age. Both of you have revealed in the past to be about 2 years older than me.

They came from different roots, but they certainly use very similar trolling techniques and are more than just brothers at heart. I was actually discussing this with the core members of Team Dice, and our conclusion is that godatine probably studied a great volume of BigDMcGee's posts on FCP and NWP in order to develop a forum posting strategy of his own.

If you really think about it though, while BigDMcGee was a son of a farmer with humble origins, he was a presidential scholar who was selected from like millions of Nebraskan farmboys to attend Northwestern and become somebody. While he probably still works in Agriculture, I tend to think this is more of a gimmick and he's probably a lot more important in real life than he claims to be online. If you think about it, Bill Clinton had a similar background and also had some disturbing hobbies similar to that of BigDMcGee. The two are probably not the same, but certainly have striking resemblances as far as tastes and extreme intelligence are concerned.
