I have a good joke but I need someone more familiar with the culture to help me out with the hard/funny parts.
How many Paki's does it take to make a Wiganer redundant?
Depends how _______________________________________.
How long a period does garden leave exist? This is a concept I was unfamiliar with. It’s similar to something many of the automakers in the US had in place called the “job bank” where you continued to get paid, usually for a period of indeterminate length. The main difference being the automakers would have been thrilled if you took another job. You also had to often show up, or be available to show up. It seems garden leave in UK prohibits taking another job, or prohibits it if you want to continue to get paid. Redundancy in the UK doesn’t sound all that bad unless it ends in 12 months or something. I imagine it eventually ends, or else it would be a quite enjoyable early retirement plan, and you’d be celebrating the news assuming your income on it doesn’t get reduced by 50% or some other factor.
Sorry to hear.
Enjoy your time off. Make your money stretch.
Looking for a job sucks, in USA anyway. To me it was almost a form of begging.

Wish you the best of luck but can't you do what they do on that BBC show and get council housing in different towns and sublet them all out since these town councils apparently don't communicate with each other? Some of these people even move to places like Greece or Nigeria (shocker) and have people manage their "real estate empires." I think that the show was called Council House Crackdown. Remember that illegality is simply a technicality. In all seriousness, milk the time off as long as you can. I have never heard another retired senior citizen complain about not working enough when he was younger.
