Very cute how Craigslist is still pretending it's an actual personals section.

They could have easily purged the hookers from there more than a decade ago if they wanted to.

Instead, every "woman seeking a man" on there is looking for you to "bring 400 roses" to the first date.

In all seriousness, Craigslist has themselves to blame for this.

Their personals section has been used for so many illicit purposes over the years, including child prostitution.

They just never gave a shit. A few times they pretended to give a shit, but in reality they were not at all interested in the harm their site was causing society.

I'm not talking about the standard situation of a dude visiting Vegas and hiring a hooker off there, and getting what he paid for. At least that's a victimless crime.

But the place really became a cespool of upcharge scams, robbery setups, underage prostitution, sex-for-drugs trades, and a bunch of other reprehensible stuff. Craigslist could have run a simple bot to scrub all of that crap off their personals section, but they very willingly let it all continue.

Then when something bad happened and hit the news, Craigslist would say "lol we can't control who posts here, of course there will be bad people sometimes".

Pretty sure this law doesn't single out Craigslist. You are also subject to criminal liability for anything crazy that happens through PokerFraudAlert. You do a fine job of moderating, but you can't be here every second of every day.

You're right that they made no effort to stamp out illegal activity, and shame on them for that, but that doesn't make the quoted excuse invalid.
