How do you order deli items?

Now I know I am old, but you always learn something new. At the deli counter waiting for my number. Chick in front of me was ordering meat by the dollar. She ordered 3 dollars of turkey and 2 dollars of cheese. God forbid I be called racist but is this a poor thing or a black thing?

It is a black thing. They also like to order cheese by the slice instead of by weight.

"lemme get" is my favorite poor quote.

A couple years ago a Indian fellow was in a long line at a convenience store, I was right behind him. He got to the cashier and said "I 'vish' to order 3 gallons of gas". After much of haggling the cashier just got out a calculator and did the math.

As far as Deli meat, always and always and always order the premium brand on site. Never get the Supermarket specials, they are awful and been sitting there for a while. An extra $2 a pound is better for the quality premium brands.

I always get the $10.99 Turkey per pound versus the ghetto $5.99 special.

    Ok, all I got.

Old people and people who live on fixed incomes do this.

I used to work at a kosher store where you would get yelled at by the customer if you sliced or cut something that wasn't on the dot correct.

You would think as an accountant by trade I'd hate a deli that gives you .6 lbs instead of the .5 lbs you ordered but people who bitch at the deli is a huge pet peeve of mine. If the extra .59 is going to ruin your finances for the week just fucking off yourself.

I see it more as the forum rediscovering its roots.

Also a nice break from the anti-Semitism.

Math is hard for some races.

Prices are plainly marked in delis.

The Black Forest Ham costs $5.99 a lb with $3 to spend & they don't know how much to get? Somebody get a gun .
Businesses that make money by collecting & selling detailed records of private lives were once plainly described as "surveillance companies." Their rebranding as "social media" is the most successful deception since the Department of War became the Department of Defense.

Working in a kosher store in nyc sounds like hell on earth, unless you own it

It is. I was 16-17 when I worked there. You have to have tons of patience and the ability to be even nicer when the customer is mean. You notice a lot of the quirks that people develop and become amused by it. I think you develop a lot more camaraderie within the job with your fellow employees as opposed to the office type environment.

I do it like this. First I seek out who I feel is the plain clothes security guard in the Wal-Mart. Then I ask them where the Oscar Meyer Bologna is located. Nothing better than asking plain clothes security where shit is whether you are looking for cold cuts or golf balls or whatever the fuck you want.

I think the slices part is just an idiot thing.

I will call a new pizza place, and ask, "Can you tell me how big your large is?", and the answer is frequently something like "8 slices".

When I clarify and say that I would like to know inches, about half the time they have no clue, and when I ask them to find out, they often say something like, "I just told you... it's 8 slices, I'm not sure we know the inches here."

I found the "slices" answer comes from uneducated people of all races.
