I grew up in the DC Metro area more specifically in Northern VA.. I remember a plethora of problems that Washington DC has had since the feds allowed the citizens "home rule" essentially turning over the local government functions to the city instead of being run by the Feds as he had previously for nearly 200yrs.. To make a long story short.. DC is a shit show always has been.. The voters in DC are the worst of the worst.. They re-elected Marion Barry time and time again despite his obvious ineptness and outright corruption.. It took him getting busted in a hotel room with a hooker and blow one night to get him out of the mayors office.. Of course it didn't last long after his legal troubles were resolved the citizens in Ward 8 elected him to the City council.. DCs problems are so deep its not funny..

Fire and EMS routinely have equiptment breaking down.. (there are some great pictures of a DC ambulance literally on fire in a parking lot), dispatchers screwing up locations for patients resulting in delays and even deaths.. One of the most infamous was the city employee who dropped across the street from a firehouse and the LT refused to allow the FFs in the bldg. to go over and render aide to the gentleman who ultimately died.. They are the poster child for throwing lots of money at education accomplishs nothing.. Schools are falling apart the HS graduation rate in DC is one of the lowest in the USA yet they spend more money on students then many of the biggest cities in the USA..

The whole damn city is a dumpster fire outside of the general areas of NW DC where the Federal Govt office buildings are and the rich section of Georgetown which is the lone ward in DC that is fairly routinely voting GOP for their city council member..
