Some might not understand the joke here, unless you've heard about the situation.

Private poker games are illegal in Nevada.

While Aria and Bellagio make their best attempt to separate their nosebleed games from everyone else and make them LOOK private, in reality they are public. They must be within public view, and they must be open to everyone. Additionally, everyone must have equal access to them.

Unfortunately, both Aria and Bellagio don't follow the law, as far as this is concerned. They use various methods to make the games "private", such as:

    - Phony waiting lists. Non-invited guests of the game go on the waiting list, while preferred players are able to jump right ahead of them, especially if the game starts at an agreed-upon time.

    - Invitation only. Once all the invited players are there, they declare the game full. So if there's 7 players, they declare the game 7-handed.

    - "Bueller, Bueller". Calling unwanted names on the list when it's checked and verified that they're out of the room.

    - Players on the way. If they are holding spots open for preferred players, they claim that these players were on the list before you, and are "on the way to the game".

    - Rigged lottery. It's claimed that, due to the large number of people on the list for a game which hasn't started yet, it would be most fair to simply fill the table with random names from the list. Then the list is taken in the back, and the preferred players are chosen. The random lottery is a lie.

    - Fake chip stacks. Phantom chip stacks are placed in seats "held" for invited players who haven't arrived yet, or simply to keep the game shorter handed. These stacks belong to the house, and are simply there to make it look like players are sitting there but away from the table.

    - Gotta keep 'em separated! The games are physically separated from the rest of the room, and security chases anyone out who attempts to observe (except from afar).

    - Excluded players. If certain players are disliked, they do their best to keep them out, often using the above tactics. Greg Merson claimed he was one of these excluded players.

Someone created that Twitter account to mock Aria for doing this.

Supposedly Bobby Baldwin is responsible for these games operating in this fashion.

Interestingly enough there have been questions about this in South Florida. To get around this one of the local places has a dedicated high stakes host and coordinates it so that everyone is there at the same time to get around these issues.

It's rare that someone walks off the street and wants to play 5-10 with a 20 straddle PLO though

This also goes on at Commerce (though not nearly as bad as the situation in Vegas).

Certain regulars befriend the regular fish in the high limit games, and they convince the fish to call them when they're coming.

Once the regulars know a fish is coming, they rush down to Commerce and get on the board -- sometimes getting their friends already there to put their names up for them.

When the fish shows up, there's a full table of players ready to sit, all of whom were ready for it. At that point, it's tough for anyone else to get in.

Sounds like a familiar story. There is one guy in particular who pulls his yacht up to palm beach and stays in town for a week. he makes a call to one of the regulars, the floor manager gets notified and all of a sudden there is a 10-20 list with 10 people on it. The worst part about it is there are 2-4 players in the game between 27-35 that are all best of friends and they work as a team pooling money. It's disgraceful but this guy is so rich it doesn't matter.

that's pretty amazing...surprised the rich guy still goes for this shit...I know guys with money like to fire, but I also know that those guys don't like to be thought of as a fucking sucker or a mindless ATM...the rich guys like the challenge and all, but it would seem to me that if the guy knew he was being ganged up on like this he'd get fucking pissed...

Can you please show me where it says this in NRS 463, the regulations on gaming.nv.gov, or any decision/order of a court (or administrative body) of competent jurisdiction? I have not yet found anything to that effect but I have not searched exhaustively (ie not every gaming decision ever made in Nevada).

FWIW I believed that private games were illegal in Nevada, but I'm starting to suspect it's a canard that people unquestioningly believe because it is repeated so often.

Don't you think that NRS 463.0129(e) covers it? A private game wouldn't qualify as an "international gaming salon" under those exceptions (if that's what you are thinking), so why wouldnt Bobby's Room or Aria's room be covered?

Starting at 1 hour 13½ minutes in Jason Mo is talking about how a Chinese business man and friend of his visited Vegas and wanted to gamble big. Bellagio only ran 10/25 so J-Mo asks if the guy can play in the Aria game, explaining that he is a fun player. Twenty minutes in to the game Alan Keating texts J-Mo essentially accusing him of putting a shark in the game and how this it not a good way to start off a business relationship.

Next day at lunch the Chinese friend recaps the evening for J-Mo, he learns that Alan Keating mid-game brought a second dealer to the table and makes the guy do 5k flips on the side with him in order to stay in the game.

No, I don't think so. I haven't found any statute or case law which would lead me to believe that "access of the general public to gaming activities" in NRS 463.0129(1)(e) means "must allow anyone to play in the game."

Also, a mandate that anyone can sit at any poker table in a Nevada casino so long as the person has a minimum buyin seems to conflict with NRS 463.0129(3)(a), which explicitly states that the section does not "abrogate or abridge any common-law right of a gaming establishment to exclude any person from gaming activities or eject any person from the premises of the establishment for any reason."

I see things very differently than most. This whole "bringing in a second dealer and insisting he does flips to stay in the game". That is insane. Why would someone want to force someone to do even money flips on the side to stay in a game? Even has another dealer ready for this? (lol)

Sketchy as fuck and it doesn't even seem to raise an eyebrow.

Lets be realistic here.. The whole gist is this.. Bobby Baldwin is the controller of the private game.. Bobby is a major power player in Vegas as one of the MGM head honchos.. NGC aint gonna fuck with Bobby Baldwin he has too much political muscle and skin in the game whether anybody likes it or not.. The games maybe illegal under the NRS but as per usual He who owns the Gold makes the rules. Additionally with the wide latitude allowed by casinos they can still "refuse action" and "backoff" whoever the hell they want even without 86ing them (although wouldn't surprise me if somebody made a stink depending on who they were they could be 86d for the night, a week, a month).. This might change once Bobby is gone from MGM end of this year but I wouldn't hold my breathe any..
