How many players will there be in the 2012 WSOP MAIN EVENT?

Last year 6,865 players entered the 2011 WSOP MAIN EVENT.

I would say less than 6,500 players will enter this year, probably way less.
Most players shot their last load off last year, then quit poker and went back
to work a regular job. That is if they could find one.

The offical numbers for Day 1A are...1,066 players

However, there are only 3 day 1's instead of 4 this year.

The funniest thing is how Seth Palansky (whose job is PR, so I guess I understand it) is trumpeting Day 1 as a success because it was an increase over last year's Day 1.

Well, yeah, but you only have 3 starting days this year instead of 4.

I predict 6300 players this year.

Druff do you think that Harrah's, given the money grubbing whores that they are, will consider making the Main Event a re-entry event next year if the numbers are down this year?

    Nah, won't happen.

Jordan Morgan was complaining that the tables are 10-handed this year, though, which is a huge fail.

Apparently they want to still run Deepstacks, and why have 9-handed tables when you can otherwise make additional rake by using those "wasted" tables by running Deepstack events.

My official gues before the WSOP was 6,200. Anything over that and they can trumpet it as a success to varying degrees, anything under that will be a disappointment, and anything under 6,000 is a disaster. If it's under 6k you can officially call poker "waning"

Just for the record, most players are playing Day 1c (pre-registration wise), so expect a monster turnout on the final day, probably more than the other two combined, could be 4,000 people on Day 1c alone

    Day 1A...1,066 players

    Day 1B...2,114 players

    Day 1C...???

Caesars/Harrah's expects up to 4,000 players and could handle 4,800 players.

By the way, PokerStars sent 8 qualifiers and Full Tilt Poker sent ZERO.

My prediction of 6300 is looking pretty good right now.

I don't see them getting 4000 people tomorrow, especially since it's on a Monday, and I think a lot of the casual players wanted to either make Day 2 or go home and not miss work.

I initially thought 6,200, but I thought Day 1b would have a similar attendance number as Day 1a. I bet they get close to 7k now. From my unscientific polling over 1/2 the people I've talked to are playing Day 1c, and the preregistration numbers had a similar result. From what I've heard the yalready have 3,000 registrations for Day 1c.

    Day 1A...1,066 players
    Day 1B...2,114 players

    Day 1C...3,418 players

    6,598 total players.

    1st place gets $8,527,982.

Prize pool for 2012 WSOP main event is $62,021,200.

Anyone know how much money did Caesars/Harrah's (steal) make off the entire WSOP this year?

Hypothetical, but one that often went through my head when playing big online tournaments back when.

Say after the first flight is completed, and you're in something like 160-200th place in chips, what is the minimum payout you would take to give up your chance to win? Would you lock down a $30- $40k profit given how quickly it could change?

This number would be different for everyone based on skill and finances, but I'm just wondering what it would be for you to just cash out given the hypothetical that you were allowed to do this, like back in the day when a shitty tournament would freeze and they'd pay out according to what place people were in when it crashed.

What could somebody buy you out of the tournament for?

A total of 6,598 players entered the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event, making it the fifth-largest Main Event in history.

    Year Entrants Winner First-Place Prize
    2006 8,773 Jamie Gold $12,000,000
    2010 7,319 Jonathan Duhamel $8,944,310
    2011 6,865 Pius Heinz $8,715,638
    2008 6,844 Peter Eastgate $9,152,416
    2012 6,598 ??? $8,527,982

If the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in 2006 and Black Friday in 2011 never happened, there would probably be somewhere between 12,000 to 15,000 players in the WSOP main event. Jamie Gold will be the biggest main event winner for a long time.
