Regarding the resort fee I was planning a week in Vegas in April. I was shocked to see resort fees started at 35 per day often not including internet (Bally’s I believe) which would tack close to $400. Seems like a sneaky way to increase the hotel rates not to mention resort fees do not include parking which I believe is close to $10 per day.. All while Servic is at a all time low.

Way it was explained to me the resort fee is a way to advertise the lowest "rate" possible on the Expedias/Orbitz of the world.

In ten years it will be .25 to stay at the Bellagio with a $224.75 resort fee.

Parking is almost $20 for 24 hrs at the strip hotels unless your tier level entitles you to free parking. It is a joke. Unless I am missing something this has to be affecting their bottom lines in every department. The off strip places are probably reaping the benefits from this dumb move but I admit I havent checked their financials to see if that is true. I guess they figure more people will gamble to reach a status where it doesn't affect them. I did notice on my recent trip that the off strip properties seemed to have larger crowds on weekdays than any of the strip places we went to.

I was able to successfully dispute 10 days worth of resort fees at the Sheraton Maui, after arguing that there were no services actually provided for the $26+ mandatory daily fee.

Parking was a separate $22 per day fee, as was renting chairs at the beach, getting a cabana at the pool or using snorkel equipment. I made the argument to the bank that if all the actual resort services are carved out and cost extra, what is the mandatory fee actually for?

Tried to dispute this on check in and check out, but they wouldn't budge. My bank listened though, and instantly credited me back the amount and filed a dispute. Sheraton likely never replied, and I won.

It's a fucking ripoff and just a way to hide their true rates. They should be forced to state the actual all-in price per night, as the airlines are forced to do.

"Resort" my ass. I use the wi-fi and that's all, and the internet is often poor. I'd pay a few bucks per day for the internet and they can keep their pool, spa and whatever else.

I'd be worried that if they noticed you charging back the resort fees they'd ban you from their properties.

The parking fees are meant to drive sign-ups for their credit cards, which automatically give you status one level above the basic member, and give you free parking. It's worth it if you will end up paying for more than 4-5 days of parking per year.

What happened last week was a fluke, and honestly I should have known it was going to happen once tradershky told me that the ON AIR light wasn't blinking. That's because the same script which turns on the ON AIR light is the one which starts the archiving, so both are likely to fail together if something went wrong.

With that said, I will be connected to the server and verify that it's actually recording.
