So apparently I am old enough to where action movies I watched as an adult are being remade.
The original Total Recall, from 1990, was one of my favorite action movies of all time.
This one has a lot cooler special effects, but it's hard to picture Total Recall without Arnold Schwartzenegger, Rachel Ticotin, and Michael Ironside.
There is a Robocop remake coming out next year.
The story writing is so bad in Hollywood these days that they have to revert to these old terrible movies to make $$$...Just awful story lines...

The remake of Blade Runner will be out hopefully soon. Ridley Scott is confirmed to be directing the same film that he did back in 1981. There will also be a sequel to Blade Runner.
Total Recall and Blade Runner are both Phillip K Dick stories. We'll see if the new movies match the old movies or the original stories.
In 1968, Phillip K Dick wrote "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" about the far away future of 1992. We're almost twice as far into the future now and we don't have any of that shit.

Total Recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger was good but incredibly cheesy and the special effects were terrible.
The one remake I'm looking forward to is The Dark Knight Rises, after that movie they should end the Batman movies forever.

"Dredd" stars NZ's own Karl Urban, who americans would have seen in the somewhat terrible "Doom" movie, and the as McCoy in the reasonable Star Trek remake. Obv as a NZer he was also in Lord of the Rings.
The SFX for Total Recall at the time were great, and some of them look a bit dated now. It was an odd choice to have Arnie in the lead, but not terrible. Colin Farrell seems to be an equally odd choice. Dont think I'll bother seeing it at the cinema.
Remaking Robocop is a fucking terrible idea, other than showing "Yeah this really is how Detroit ended up".
If its a sequel as such then it wont be as bad. for anyone who hasnt seen it, ignore Robocop 3 it is mike408 tilt bad.
When faced with a difficult decision, ask yourself "What would Micon do?", then do the opposite.

I didn't think the original Total Recall was cheesy. It was an action movie, and I thought a really good one. Action movies never have really deep stories, nor should you want them to.
Obviously the special effects sucked by 2012 standards, but they were fine for 1990. Not sure how old you are, but if you're under 30, it's hard to appreciate earlier action movies because you won't have any memory of watching movies where the special effects looked like the ones in Total Recall.

Agree with this - Total Recall is up there with my favorite "AH-nold" movies. It is so weird now though watching these kind of movies with my daughter. I thought the premise behind Total Recall was a very good one, but part of what made it so good is that when it came out, it was a novel idea. Now it's kind of played out.

The point is, when you start off with something sh*tty (Total Recall), and attempt to remake it, odds are high that said remake will in fact reflect the inherent sh*ttiness of the original product...
A story is told in three parts...These are the basics which writers have basically lost today...
1. Era and characters set with hero and villian...Someone wants something and someone stands in his way...
2. Tension mounts as two forces battle each other and then suddenly a twist that astonishs everyone....Problem is solved that leads to a climax...
3. Resolution...
