Gamers are a pretty lazy group, so the whole idea of VR is just a bad concept. If you wanted to physically experience something you would just go do the real version. It's not like VR is a new concept, it has been around as long as gaming has basically. It will never surpass controller / keyboard gaming because the target audience is completely different.

Hell the most successful VR game is ... VR chat which is nothing more than AOL chat rooms of people walking around trolling each other with virtual characters and a huge part of its success is because it requires none of the VR hardware and you just need a mic ...

“I believe the simplest explanation is, there is no God. No one created the universe and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization that there probably is no heaven and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe and for that, I am extremely grateful.”

very compelling argument being made that bitcoin mining blew GPU prices the fuck out of the water, creating a grossly inflated entry price point for VR gear.

Outside of the terrible cell phone VR stuff...

-Price point too expensive entry for most you need a 1500$ computer plus another 500-1000$ for VR software
    -Games are limited selection
-Gaming is exhuasting and hard to do for long periods.
-Gaming is hard socially since everyone else in the room is not experiencing what you are.
-Amount of space required can be a big issue. Ideally you want a largely empty room.
-Most games are typical PC games with VR elements.
-Motion sickness is huge issue so they have to dial down immersion.
-Headsets are wired which is annoying

Still I'm looking forward to playing Lone Echo in the coming weeks (been playing robo recall instead) and Oculus continues to be great hosting piece.

So I've probably played more VR in the last month than I did in my first 4 months of owning the system. A few thoughts that I want to expand on above.

-Occulus touch controllers are very awesome and definitely not a gimmick. You feel like tom cruise in minority report. Built in mic and headset makes huge difference in multiplayer
-Motion sickness is a really big problem for lots of gamers. Free movement is hard for about half the population and barely affects the other half...
-The biggest mistake is that developers are trying to transfers typical PC games to a virtual reality platform. They need to instead make virtual reality games from the ground up. Make a title that is literally impossible to do without virtual reality. Easier said than done of course. Example below is table tennis. One of most fun games and could never play it outside of VR. It really is amazing and probably better than real table tennis which I also play multiple times a week.

Also rec room is also amazing but also a great tool for pedos, not even kidding with amount of kids playing it.

I suspect the main problem is the nausea. My understanding is the less the latency etc the more they fix this, but it always exists.

That is all tied into to not being able to game for that long. People don't want to wear a headset that might make them feel uncomfortable.

Really no surprise. I'm waiting more for augmented reality games. If you put enough sensor in a headset to track where people are standing then you can do all sorts of shit that is suuuuper cool, but unfortunately such sensors are not the sort of thing put into a phone. (GPS only works outside for the most part)

my new gen 2 Vive headset arrived 2 days ago and i havent even unboxed it.

i expect ill crack it open sometime next week, say "yeah welp, still kinda sucks.." and return it.

a lot of people are weeping about the price which i personally find fucking absurd, considering the technology at bar, but even im not entirely convinced that the technology exists at any price to make this market palatable.

I maintain that the best VR games are those that can't cross over from PC. Still loving Eleven Table Tennis. Have now cracked world top 100 (not saying much since player base is only like 3k). But taking as break for now for BoxVR. Actually really fun and good work out. Still in early access but cool you can put in any song you want and it will generate for you.

    Blacks are the new Jews.

They both come from Africa so it makes sense.
