When police showed up, apparently all 12 children were chained to their beds.
The couple "could not explain" to police why that was happening.
In situations like these, I always wonder what the crazy captors' end game is. Do they think this will go on forever without eventually getting caught?
Even in cases where they successfully hide the captivity for years, something like this eventually happens, and they get caught.
Pretty amazing how they had the children so brainwashed that they could take them out to Disneyland and other places, and give the appearance of a happy family.
For example, in this picture from 2011, they all went to Disneyland with other family members (or friends), and no one said anything to anyone there about what was going on at home:
I guess the 17-year-old who escaped finally realized how sick and wrong all of this was, and found the opportunity to escape. I'm surprised the family didn't pick up and run once it was seen that the girl escaped, but maybe they thought she was too brainwashed to actually report them to police.
