    One of the most tilting billing fails

    I see this one all the time, and it's so tilting trying to get corrected.

    You change something about your cell phone or cable plan, and they move you to a new plan.

    Since you pay these bills a month in advance, they are supposed to credit you for the unused portion and then charge you extra for the prorated portion of the month for the new plan.

    So if you have a $100 plan and you chance to another $100 plan on January 15, you should be due half back (slightly more, but let's say half to make it easy) from the previous plan.

    So it should be like this:

    $50 CREDIT from what I paid for all of January, since I'm changing it in the middle of January
    $50 CHARGE for the second half of January on the new plan
    $100 CHARGE for February

    So it would be the same $100 total as if I had changed nothing.

    Anyway, often this gets screwed up and you get double-charged.

    So then I get a bill for $200 instead of $100, and when I call to explain this to the reps, they tell me, "No it's because it's prorated" and it's IMPOSSIBLE to explain to these dummies why they're wrong.

    I usually have to go at least one (sometimes two) levels up to get this fixed.

    At the end, they always acknowledge I'm right, and apologize for the previous reps' mistakes.

    The incorrect reps are always extremely arrogant and treat me like a moron for not believing them.

    They will not listen to logic or basic math.

    This is going on right now, and I will literally disconnect my entire cable service and fuck them on the money I actually owe if they don't eventually fix this.

    I'd love to read the YELP reviews on Druff if only companies had a rate the client option. I imagine him already being banned from Uber and Lift.

    I've never used Uber or Lyft.

    I'm sure many companies would be unhappy with me because I persistently fight BS like this instead of just quietly eating the amount I'm getting screwed and going away.

    I posted about this particular situation because it happens fairly often (not just to me, but to lots of people) when changing plans, and you always run into the same idiotic explanation that it's "pro-rated" -- something I'm sure many people have simply accepted and blamed themselves for not understanding.

    It's annoying enough that this happens in the first place, but the worst are the call center employees who think they can reshape basic math and convince me I'm wrong. I don't even think they're lying to me. I just think they are too stupid and/or lazy to understand why this is incorrect, and they don't want to listen to any explanation which challenges their first conclusion.

    The one today told me, "That rep who did the change for you started it on December 27, which is the last day of your billing cycle. Had they started it on the 28th, this wouldn't have happened. Your bill would have been $98 less."

    I asked, "So you're saying that because they arbitrarily chose one day instead of the next, service should be $98 more expensive for me?"

    The rep said yes.



    Sounds like she was trolling me, but I could tell she was dumb enough to really believe what she was saying.

    I'm actually owed $140, not $98, but we're not even up to that. I will try again tomorrow with a more senior department (the retentions team).

    Long phone call this morning, but it was conceded that I was right all along, and the bill was adjusted.

    I have now lodged a complaint against the arrogant and clueless rep from yesterday who refused to do her job and told me to kick rocks when I wanted her to look into it and correct it.

    I made sure to first prove on today's call that I was correct in the first place, before lodging this complaint. Yesterday's rep was even dumb enough to put stupid notes in my account that I was demanding credit I didn't deserve, and how she shut me down. LOL

    Yesterday she even tried to lecture me that "you don't get a prorated refund when you rent an apartment and leave mid-month, so you don't get one here either", which of course wasn't even close to the same thing going on in this situation.

    She absolutely refused to consider anything I said, and kept repeating to me that I'm due nothing and that she didn't need to look into it further.

    I consider it a public service to get reps like this fired or disciplined, as it prevents them from fucking with other customers in the future. She's not capable of doing the job and should be replaced with someone both competent and willing to listen.

    You got the rep a raise & a pat on the back.

    The rep was doing her job.

    OP just goes farther than most people would when he thinks he is getting screwed or can get something cheaper. The rep did her job by forcing you to scale the corporate ladder. Again, most people will not do this & will just pony up the extra money & go on with their lives.

    Best advice is OP should call up the rep & apologize to her.
