I don't necessarily want to get into a tax debate with someone far more knowledgeable than I am, but this problem occurred while California was and remains one of the highest taxed States and it seems sort of lol to me to directly correlate any income tax cut (or tax hike) with the tent city homelessness problem. In fact I'm fairly confident that any tax hike is to cover for monies already spent by the Government.

Now it would be nice if the City of Anaheim or County of Orange approached the tent city problem with the same enthusiasm and zealousness as those bidding for the new Amazon location, but that's obviously never going happen.

I spent many of years outside of Philadelphia. There are parts of Philadelphia (Chester and across the river in Camden) that would make this Orange County stretch look like a paradise. And instead of being 55 degrees in the morning, its 5 degrees. Give me a break. Walk around the North East in the winter outside of Philadelphia off 1-95, Newark and Elizabeth and the Bronx and let me know what you see. Give me a break.

Problem is different in LA, there are more homeless due to more factors. Nice weather attracts them, there are many working homeless because minimum wage does not put a roof over your head in LA, the drug abuse problem, and lastly cuts in mental health services have poured the mentally ill into the streets and beaches.

I was appaled at the scope of LA homeless when I worked there. Cabbies told me rent is so high that they share apartments with 8 or more others so they wouldnt be homeless. Every block of Beverly Hills had at least one homeless on the street, Santa Monica beach is full of drug addicts and homeless making it unvisitable.

Few have rent controlled apartments like Scalir, and even he was forced to rent out a portion to survive.
I couldn't wait to go back home where there are fewer homeless and more services for the ones who are.

I wish they could all trade places with every idiot that owns a house and makes a choice to go camping.

I don't disagree, although I have been to Santa Monica many times and you have not seen anything like I have seen in the North East (unless you live there). Sepulveda Blvd can get dicey in LA, not saying it cannot. But outside south side of Philadelphia and in the Delaware, Camden basin and working you way an hour north to Newark, it is just awful. I can say the BIG difference in LA and the North East is the extreme cold. You never get -9 degree wind chills in LA.

WTF? How poor do you have to be to be homeless in the North?

Or do you think it's a calculated move to garner more sympathy? Like how much are people gonna possibly give you when it's 70 degrees outside.

I can just tell you it's much more violent in the north in the inner cities. You just can't set up tents along the road in say South Philadelphia. Now you do have more shelters in the North, but that is because its so much colder, you have to. I saw that video of the guy just riding his bike filming folks in Orange County. You could never do that in say Chester PA, you just could not. Maybe once as a gimmick but not twice. Word would get out. Check out the casino in Chester PA and walk 1000 feet in either direction and let me know if you feel safe. Ok?

Ok I can get behind the thought of Northern bums being more violent but I can't get behind the thought that there is even close to the homeless problem in the north as there is in the south. It makes no sense. Even birds know enough to migrate south. How anyone can poo poo on a video of a guy riding his bike for like two miles worth of refugee town in a USA city hurts my brain.

Most of them aren't working homeless. Most of them are either drug addicts, former drug addicts, or mentally ill.

Master Scalir is forced to share his rent control apartment because he is obsessed with keeping it, and it's located in a nice area which has gotten expensive. He could rent a room in a cheaper part of the valley if he wanted (which I've suggested), but he doesn't.

Like as a way to get yourself off masturbating similar to a way rich folks with power fantasize about being tied up and getting paddled? Or do you mean a non-sexual fantasy?

So where are your stats? You claim to know who these people are. How about the numbers who were foreclosed by the banks after buying into what the banks were selling?
Don't just throw your opinions about. Read a book

And if I'm dead wrong you still have a hell of a problem due to a lack of safety net available for those
disenfranchised. Whatever the cause your problem exists

You might actually feel safe if you went to harrahs Philadelphia (located in scenic Chester, PA) because the picturesque property is located just a few feet from the penitentiary in Chester...not joking...Caesars built their philly property in the backyard of a jail...

Even the liberals in California don't try to claim that these tent-city homeless are working poor. And believe me, if this were true, they would have a field day shaming Republicans all over the media.

The liberals attack this with the angle, "We need more social services for these people, we need more homeless shelters, we need to raise taxes to fund this", but they don't even think of trying to go at this by claiming those homeless are the working poor, because it's simply untrue.

The fact of the matter is that the working poor can still afford housing. Not great housing, and not in the best areas, and sometimes they need roommates, but they can afford housing if they have a steady job (even a minimum wage one).

Most homeless people are homeless as a result of drug addiction or mental illness. There is a small percentage of homeless who do hold down steady jobs and choose to be homeless in order to save money, but they are by far the exception and not the rule.

Yeah. None of the homeless people work. They are all some combination of drug addicts/mental illness. Rent is very high (not as bad as San Fran) so the working poor (mostly Mexican) all live multiple families to a little apartment/condo in bad neighborhoods, but I don't think they contribute very much to the homeless population.

I don't really know if there is a solution the way things stand, because our local government systems are so incompetent and wasteful, I doubt they would be able to effectively use any $$ thrown at the problem.
