Jew tip: Movie Pass

Anyone here signed up for Movie Pass? It’s $9.95 per month and you can see a movie per day. Use it once per month and you save money. I’ve used it at the Regal Thester near me. Since getting the cards we’ve seen a movie per week. It works like a debit card. You have to check in to your movie time on the app when you are at the theater. They then transfer the funds to your card and you pay with it. I don’t know how long this business model can last as they lose money every time you use it. They hope eventually to negotiate a percentage of concession sales as well as generate revenue from the consumer data they collect.

I did look into this, but decided against it since I don't see movies too often, and when I do I get AMC tickets from Costo for about $8. Great deal if you do go often. Or if you're going to go a lot in a month it seems pretty easy to sign up and cancel any time.

I didn't look into their business model before. I assumed they were owned by a big movie chain or at the very least had revenue sharing with the big chains. This would makes sense as a business model as it could produce additional revenue from casual moviegoers. The overhead of somebody seeing a movie is almost zero unless it's a sold out movie. A theater would rather somebody spend $120/yr and see 20 movies, then spend $60/yr and see 5 movies. But it turns out they're just loading money onto your card and paying the theaters face value for the ticket (lol). AMC has basically objected and trashed MoviePass even tho you can use them at many AMCs. AMC says their service is unsustainable. But I don't see why they should care that much. They're getting additional revenue by having MoviePass subsidies a bunch of users. Free money for them.
