Snow today in Birmingham and Atlanta areas

How common is snow in these areas?

I know it's not all that common, but can you expect at least one of these per year?

I see it snowed like 4-5 inches in Birmingham and a little bit north of Atlanta (though I think Atlanta itself was spared).

IIRC, the last time it snowed like 0.5 of an inch in Atlanta it was like a state of emergency there.

It snows usually 2 or 3 times a year. The biggest difference this time so far is that it hasn't been consistently below 30 degrees so the snow isn't refreezing after it melts. Ice is the real motherfucker down here when it happens.

Yep. I had to go pick up my wife from work that day, just a few miles from my house. Took me 6 hours.

At one point I lost control of the car, sliding on ice, despite only going 5 mph. The roads hadn't been salted at all, anywhere.

Yeah same thing happens in Portland as well. Last winter was fun, as it was a particularly snowy winter.
