FTPJesus playing Commerce ME next Friday.

What amounts to probably one of the biggest free rolls of my life I won a seat to play in the 500k guarantee at Commerce next Thursday. Kinda have to laugh my lucks been so crappy lately even though I signed up for the drawing I didn’t think I had a shot at it. Anyway so now I get to figure out how to get to LA for next thursdsy and then manage to somehow hopefully cash in this thing cause truth be told really could use the money. Anybodyelse playing??

If you really need the money, I would sell the seat. Dead money and all. Just go there, pay attention and focus, even if it's for a round at a time.

Don't open more than 2.5x BB.

Don't always c-bet if checked on flop after you open. If you missed and you think your opponent will call or raise, based on board texture, check back.

Main events these days are kinda nitty in the early stages. If someone represents that they have it, they probably do.

If last to act on flop and it's checked to you, and you had cold-called pre, bet most of the time. You will often take it.

you have nothing to lose so play in a way that you will be proud of, regardless of the outcome

this is your day to be an alpha

you will see many players that are just hoping to run good enough to min-cash - take advantage of those players (also, don't be one of those players)

    dream, declare, deliver

    godspeed

This is not the kind of main event Druff plays once a year.

    It's a $1100 buyin (500k guar) with a pretty crappy structure.

3 day ones, players allowed to rebuy once per day.

Play down to winner on day two.

Study your shove fold game with 20BB or less. (won't take long to get there)

In all honestly to sell the seat would be inappropriate and Druff knows why.. I won it through a drawing on RealGrinders and Im getting free RG stuff to represent the group in exchange for the seat plus a free hotel room. I did confirm with Matt Savage that I can play whatever Day 1 I want so Im probably just going to play the Day 1C which would mean doing it as a 2 day tournament.. If anything its also better for them as if I did play 1A and got through they would be paying for 2 dead days of hotel as it is.. This way I will drive up now (as I can now take my Wifes car instead of having to rent one to get there or having to do a Ken Scalir and literally take Greyhound from here in Phoenix to LA and then a taxi to Commerce and likely bomb as I would be probably in enough pain from my back to need to pop multiple Oxys..). I will likely now drive up Friday night to LA finding a cheaper place for Fri night (unless they will pay for me to check in the night before anyway.. rooms aint cheap $200/nt) to stay and then drive to Commerce after checkout Sat morning and be mentally and physically ready to play.. I view this a lot like an incident from my college days.. I got to Chicago convention for what was known as Phi Beta Lambda which is the college arm of Future Business Leaders of America.. I got asked to fill in for the National Championship contest in Computer Networking and like Druff I was a pretty well versed in Telecommunications.. I had nothing to lose and everthing to gain.. I ended up winning the whole damn thing at 18 1/2 beating out 2 guys who had just graduated with 4 yr College Degrees in Computer Science and Network Engineering.. So oddly 25 yrs later literally Im handed a similar situation..

Sure its a freebie but having now found out my health insurance is gonna screw me and need $5k now to get my spinal surgery anyway this could be my one chance to win the money I need at the tables.. (new carrier from wifes work is $1500 deductible and $5k Out of Pocket which is easily going to be spent when your talking spinal cord surgery costing probably before good ole insurance discounts in the $250k range.. The remaing $3500 would be easily demanded for anything $10k when its 70/30 until OOP is hit then 100% paid afterwards). So yeah Im calling for my one time in this tournament to cash enough to help get me back on my feet literally or hell take the whole damn tournament down.. Why not.. I start with the same stack as everybodyelse there..

This will be a slightly bigger environment for me as anybody whos played here in AZ locally knows outside of the AZ State Poker Championship the usual tourneys here are basically turbos in the dailies for anywhere from $30-$125 depending on where your playing with 20min levels (even worse for the $5 donkament with rebuy that is now just Sundays at Ft Mcdowell Casino had been every day at noon except Tuesdays). The interesting thing is the payout structure on this is guaranteed to pay 12.5% of each Day 1 and based on previous results min cash would be around $1600 but I agree I don't want that and honestly if Im serious in what I said I need to definitely try to make Day 2 where the bigger money is.. Given the Guarantee is 1/2 what the AZSPC is which is $1M and it pays out aaroudn $220k-$250k for first guessing this will be around $110-$125k for first place on Sunday the 19th..

Glad someone got that it was tongue in cheek. Thing is if I bricked, it wasn't like I was going to have to scrounge to pay for groceries etc

RealGrinders has been nice enough to provide some gear but I’ve decided I also will be wearing my PFA hat at the tables. Like I said blind structures are basically similar to what I’m used to except 40min vs 20min. I’m also going to play a little live this week here in AZ to get my feet wet as my health issues and MD appts have made it harder to get to play when dailies start around noon at the Casinos here be it TSR FT McDowell or Wildhorse.

    BUMP it up..

ok I gotta say Commerce has come through strong... I'm on one of the top two floors (you gotta use your key to get to the floor).. room is definitely nice indeed.. Ok that being said its off to bed with my ass.. Drive took longer then it should've (7hrs plus some) thanks to idiot drivers leaving Phx today.. Actually couldn't complain about the Traffic on I10 and I5 was moving and nobody was really being an asshole I was pleasantly surprised.. Expected a few assholes to go flying by me despite me running 80-85 pretty much all the way from Blythe here..

Well JoeD managed to do better then me.. I was stuck nursing my chip stack after a couple of bad hands (one of which cost me 6k in chip of my stack).. Managed to make it into Level 6 which was my 2nd All In (first folded around after shoving for 6k with AQ) and dude had same suited paint as me so it wasn't going to end well.. I was screwed for the flush already and he hit a Q on the turn to end me.. Today is going to be brutal to cash as the runners were I believe 310-315 meaning folks are gonna have to finished around 35-40 to cash as only top 12.5% make the money today and theyre playing down to top 5% (They were still playing Fridays Day 1 when I got in last night around Midnight)..

Side note to JoeD.. Well played sir not letting the Mike Matusow wannabe in Seat 6 get to ya.. (yall have to ask JoeD about that one but dude was a total dick when Joe killed him on a hand). Whats worse is this MM wannabe was channeling his inner Faraz hitting flushes repeatedly mostly on suckouts.. (He felted one dude hitting a river flush after the dude had Broadway)..

Anyway was fun to play but tough competition to say the least wondering seriously if I should've taken my seat later but it is what it is since folks were still able to start full stack up through Level 5 (which was 50-150/300 blinds) meaning 50bbs..

No regrets.. I just got card dead at times thus leaving me push fold for the last 40 mins or so I was in the tourney and was nearly all fold..

It was nice meeting you too. Your singing "row your boat" (I think that's what it was) after that loudmouth lost to a full house was lol classic!

I got knocked out about 60 from the $$. Still was fun.

Hope your health improves FTP and maybe I'll see you again next summer at the WSOP.

ps: Druff, the PFA hats look nice, better than the pics would indicate, but the Real Grinders gear that Raymond Davis was wearing today has you out kicked.

hehe yeah I don't think he liked it all that much.. Honestly didn't help me I left my headphones so no music to get me in the mood (I do legit play better when I'm listening to music I think) and being the supersititous person I left my lucky four leaf clover card protector as well.. Probably didn't amount to much but such is life.. I'm hoping I can get my back fixed in January early February at the latest assuming nothingelse comes up.. (Having now said that I probably screwed myself ahah).. Yeah I figured Id dig out the PFA hat since Ray got me the sweatshirt I have a couple more patches at the house Ill find a use for I'm sure somehow.. My goal has been to finally play some WSOP maybe next summer if I'm lucky enough..
