Just watched an episode on Opiate Abuse

With all the hype on Opiates, thought I would Netflix an episode on the drug. It was interesting, learned some things. Apparently, when you abuse opiates over a sustained period of time your brain stops produces endorphin (or dopamine) causing the user to crave the opiate (usually heroin) to supplement what is lost by the brain.

I always heard the term "dope sick" but really never knew what it meant. It really is the drug deprived user is craving the dopamine the body used to create on its own. So they get sick and freak out, get chills and think everyone if going to kill them. After a few days of detoxing, the brain starts naturally producing endorphin again and all is well. But that has to be a brutal few days, I can see why you need a padded room with someone watching over you.

What I don't understand is after your body begins producing endorphin again, users with a clear mind go back to using. Some perfectly normal people in this documentary just went back to using:

What is the title of documentary? Is it solely on opiates or is it a series covering other drugs? I’m looking at Netflix and don’t see anything new that fits description but I want to check it out. Thanks Anders 🚽🚽🚽

In recovery, getting clean is the easy part. Understanding and dealing with why you were using in the first place is much harder.
