"The Wave" in Arizona/Utah -- anyone been there?

This looks cool, but it's a huge pain in the ass to get to.

    The issues:

    1) It's far. It's in the middle of nowhere near the Utah/Arizona border. It's 4 hours from Vegas, 3 hours from Flagstaff, and 2 hours from Zion National Park.

    2) The little road to get to the trailhead sucks, and some vehicles can't make it, especially if it's raining or snowing.

    3) It's tough to get a permit to hike it.

    Anyone done this?

I would think the best time of year to hike it would be around now (late Oct/early Nov) or early spring (mid-March through early April), when it's not too hot or cold.
