Was an interesting event. I felt that the strategy I chose for it was a good one, and I will play it again next year.

It was nice having a big early hand where I flopped a straight and opponent flopped 2 pair, but I never won another big pot after that.

My two problems were:

1) Missed every draw -- AGAIN

2) As it got later and I got shorter, every ante-steal attempt ran into big hands. These weren't re-steals because they either came from tight/straightforward players or there ended up being a showdown between the re-raiser and someone else, and the re-raiser had something big every time.

I felt that people at the table -- including ones I assume are otherwise good NL players -- were making big mistakes that I could have capitalized on, had I gotten the right cards.

My final hand was interesting.

I had 66 UTG (which is actually the SB position in this event), and a shortish stack of 5100. Average was about 11k at that time. Antes were 75, and the table was 10-handed.

I made it 400, got 3 callers.

At that point, before seeing the flop, I said to myself, "I'm going to check-fold unless the flop comes with a 6 or all-low." If the board came Ace-rag-rag, I was probably going to put in a C-bet to see if I could induce a fold. Anything on the board 9 through K, I was going to check/fold unless I had a set.

Flop came 8-7-2 with two clubs. Pot was 2350, I had 4700.

I decided my two options here were check/fold or shove. After some quick thought, I decided to shove, figuring that there was a decent chance I had the best hand, since a 7 or 8 wasn't all that likely to be cold-called unless someone had a suited connector/1-gapper like 78, 98, or T8. I also felt that nobody would call a shove of 4700 with just overcards.

I was likely right on both counts, as next guy to act called, and the other two insta-mucked.

He turned over QcJc, technically behind, but giving him a 56% chance to suck out.

That's what he did on the turn when Js fell, and the 5h on the river wasn't of any help.
