"America is not so much a nightmare as a non-dream. The American non-dream is precisely a move to wipe the dream out of existence. The dream is a spontaneous happening and therefore dangerous to a control system set up by the non-dreamers." -- William S. Burroughs

That fucker Barry Cales, who finished 3rd, almost busted 10th instead of me. We had virtually the same stack. He was SB, I was BB. All in pre, he had AK suited, I had QQ. Flop/turn were low and safe, river the fucking ace of spades. He doubled, I busted.
It was an ESPN TV table at that point, right after I busted (because it became 9-handed). Full Tilt was ready to give me $15,000-$20,000 to wear their hat, had I made it.
Barry Cales pretty much sat there and played no hands, and skated into 3rd place because everyone was playing crazy and shot off their chips. He got $235k, I got $23k.
But at least I got to play with Tom Vu, right?
On a side note, I did not rebuy or add on at all, but many people did. There was no documentation given. They just took your cash and gave you chips. Turned out floormen were skimming from the prize pool. The WSOP quietly fired a few people involved in this, and then ended these rebuy events for awhile. So I got fucked there, as I some of that stolen money should have gone to me. This incident was never well publicized.
Here is a pic of me from that event:
I played with him fairly regularly at The Sahara back in the day. He was always really cool to me, and funny as hell.
OG status.
